Graduation Ceremony & Walk

The following are answers Frequently Asked Questions regarding Mars Area School District's plan for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony & Walk.

When and where will Mars Area High School's Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony & Walk be held?

The Graduation Ceremony & Walk will take place on the Mars Area High School campus (parking lots) at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 12(Note: In the event of light rain, the event will be held as scheduled. If necessary, a rain date is scheduled on Saturday, June 13.)

Does the plan for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony & Walk take into account social distancing requirements?

The District's Administrative Team and Graduation Team has developed a strategic plan for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony & Walk that prioritizes the safety of our seniors, parents, staff, and the community while honoring and celebrating our seniors.

Graduates will be the only individuals permitted outside of their vehicles aside from essential school staff.  Social distancing will be maintained AT ALL TIMES. The only exception will be when an administrator delivers the diploma to the graduate. There will be no contact, but the administrator will be within six feet of the student. (For a video describing the parade route as well as the planned social distancing measures, click on the link in the right-hand column of this page.)

How many parking spots will be permitted per graduate/family?

All graduates/families will be assigned one parking spot, for one vehicle only. Vehicles will be parked in every other space to maintain social distancing. All vehicles must remain parked in the assigned spot until the entire ceremony is complete — approximately two (2) hours.

When should graduates/families plan to arrive?

All vehicles (families/graduates) are asked to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. All vehicles should be parked by 5:50 p.m.

Will parents/families be permitted to exit their vehicles?

No. Parents and families must remain in their vehicles AT ALL TIMES. Graduates will be the only individuals permitted outside of their vehicles, aside from essential school staff.

How will graduates obtain their diplomas?

Graduates will receive their diploma from an administrator and then walk along a marked route through the parking lots, passing their peers and families. (For a video describing the parade route as well as the planned social distancing measures, click on the link in the right-hand column of this page.) Social distancing will be maintained AT ALL TIMES. The only exception will be when an administrator delivers the diploma to the graduate. There will be no contact, but the administrator will be within six feet of the student.

Special Requests

The following are answers to Frequently Asked Question regarding Special Requests for the Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony & Walk.

Are any considerations being considered for divorced or separated parents?

Mars Area High School has received several requests asking for an additional parking space for divorced or separated parents. While we will make every attempt to honor as many of these requests as possible, please note that, in order to meet social distancing requirements, parking spaces are very limited. Unfortunately, there is not enough parking to accommodate two vehicles for every family in this situation.

Is my graduate family able to park next to a relative (e.g. grandparents) to see multiple graduates from the same family receive their diplomas?

Mars Area High School will make every attempt honor request from families that would like to park next to or near relatives. Please note that only one vehicle is permitted per graduate/family. If you would like to park next to or near a relative's vehicle, please let us know as soon as possible.

Is my graduate/family able to park next to a friends?

Mars Area High School will not honor any requests for graduates/families to park next to or near friends.
