Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the 2024 WPIAL Class 3A Track & Field Championship, held May 15-16 at Slippery Rock University.

On the boys team, senior Adam Rohrbaugh took 10th place (6 feet, 1 inch) and senior Evan Kurpakus tied for 13th place (5 feet, 11 inches) in the High Jump. The relay team of seniors Wyatt Gamble and Evan Wright and sophomore Gabriel Hein and Ayden Yocum took ninth place (43.56) in the 4x100-Meter Relay

Sophomore Gabriel Hein took 11th place (22.59) in the semifinals of the 200-Meter Dash. Senior Evan Wright took 17th place (11:40) in the semifinals of the 100-Meter Dash.

On the girls team, the relay team of senior Riley Mayer, junior Lexi Hallock and sophomores Laney Bowes and Madeline George received 17th place (10:12.22) in the 4x800-Meter Relay. Sophomore Autumn Flowers earned ninth place (15.65) in the semifinals of the 100-Meter Hurdles.

2024 MAC Track & Field Championship 

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the 2024 MAC Track & Field Championship, held April 24 at Shenango High School (New Castle).

On the boys team, senior Evan Wright earned second place (11.24) and freshman Gabriel Hein took fifth place (11.44) in the 100-Meter Dash. Freshman Gabriel Hein took 12th place (24.06) and senior Evan Wright received 22nd place (25.26) in the 200-Meter Run.

Sophomore Ayden Yocum took 11th place (54.46) and junior Kyle Kochanski received 16th place (55.69) in the 400-Meter Run. Senior Brady Spoores took 15th place (2:14.72) and junior Kyle Kochanski received 18th place (2:16.26) in the 800-Meter Run.

Sophomore Jacob Pietrusinski received 15th place (4:55.41) and sophomore Kayden Koscho received 27th place (5:13.27) in the 1,600-Meter Run. Sophomore Colton Rearick took 19th place (11:06.70) and sophomore Hudson Shipler received 25th place (11:50.93) in the 3,200-Meter Run.

Sophomore Colton Rearick took 15th place (17.89) and senior Ryan Schnitgen tied for 25th place (19.31) in the semifinals of the 110-Meter Hurdles. Senior Ryan Schnitgen took 17th place (46.46) and sophomore Colton Rearick received 24th place (48.20) in the 300-Meter Hurdles.

The Boys Relay Team earned fifth place (45.32) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

Senior Adam Rohrbaugh earned 3rd place (5 feet, 10.5 inches) and senior Evan Kurpakus took 5th place (5 feet, 8.5 inches) in the High Jump. Senior Adam Rohrbaugh earned sixth place (19 feet, 2.25 inches) and sophomore Nathan Tak received 33rd place (15 feet, 9 inches) in the Long Jump.

Senior Adam Rohrbaugh earned seventh place (10 feet, 4 inches) and junior Michael Bridgeman tied for 16th place (7 feet, 10 inches) in the Pole Vault. Senior Cooper Courson took 19th place (110 feet, 4 inches) and junior Jameson Astarb, received 31st place (91 feet, 10 inches) in the Javelin Toss.

Junior Logan Becker received 14th place with a distance of 107 feet, 11 inches and senior Devin Douds received 25th place (96 feet, 2 inches) in the Discus Toss. Junior Logan Becker took 23rd place (36 feet, 3.5 inches) and senior Augustus Aubrecht received 27th place (34 feet, 5 inches) in the Shot Put.

On the girls team, sophomore Autumn Flowers earned third place (16.11) in the 100-Meter Hurdles. Junior Lydia Fabian received 21st place (19.99) in the semifinals of the event. Freshman Alexis Whitling earned third place (50.93) and freshman Mya Spadafore took 11th place (53.92) in the 300-Meter Hurdles.

Freshman Layla Lewandowski received 23rd place (30.17) in the 200-Meter Run. Sophomore Autumn Flowers took 19th place (13.61) in the semifinals of the 100-Meter Dash.

Senior Riley Mayer earned fourth place (2:31.06) and sophomore Madeline George took 11th place (2:42.96) in the 800-Meter Run. Freshman Layla Lewandowski earned eighth place (1:06.66) and sophomore Gabrielle Gage took 10th place (1:07.58) in the 400-Meter Run.

The Girls Relay Teams earned fifth place (10:28.52) in the 4x800-Meter Relay and took 11th place (55.02) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

Junior Hannah Todd took 20th place with a distance of 72 feet, 8 inches and sophomore Amanda Lape received 22nd place (70 feet, 2 inches) in the Discus Toss. Junior Hannah Todd took 33rd place (22 feet, 7 inches) and sophomore Mia Gratton received 34th place (21 feet, 8 inches) in the Shot Put.

Sophomore Riley Carrel tied for eighth place (8 feet, 4 inches) and senior Vivian Frank took 23rd place (6 feet, 4 inches) in the Pole Vault. Junior Addisyn Vavala tied for 15th place (4 feet, 6.5 inches) and sophomore Alexa Everhart tied for 17th place (4 feet, 6.5 inches) in the High Jump.

Senior Morgan Miller took 24th place (13 feet, 9.25 inches) in the Long Jump. Senior Morgan Miller received 26th place (27 feet, 8.5 inches) in the Triple Jump.

2022-2023

PIAA Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the 2023 PIAA Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championships, held May 26-27 at Shippensburg University.

Senior Jacob Thompson took 19th place (50.29) in the 400-Meter Dash and received 25th place (22.32) in the 200-Meter Dash.

The relay team of seniors Domenico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson took 20th place (3.25.55) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. Junior Evan Kurpakus competed in the High Jump.

2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the 2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championships, held May 17 at Slippery Rock University.

On the boys team, senior Jacob Thompson earned first place (49.76) in the 400-Meter Dash and fourth place (21.93) in the 200-Meter Dash. Junior Ryan Sheldon took 19th place (16.57) in the semifinals in the 110- Meter Hurdles.

The relay team of seniors Domenico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson earned fourth place (3:26.83) in the 4x400 Meter Relay. The relay team of seniors Hayden Mayer and Jeremy Stevenson, junior Ralph Zatezalo and freshman Lincoln Green, took 23rd place (45.66) in the 4x100 Meter Relay.

Junior Evan Kurpakus earned first place (6 feet, 1 inch) in the High Jump. Senior Kasra Ghadimi tied for 10th place (12 feet) in the Pole Vault.

On the girls team, sophomore Morgan Duker took sixth place (58.95) in the 400-Meter Dash. Freshman Autumn Flowers took eighth place (16.11) in the 100-Meter Hurdles.

The relay team of junior Riley Mayer, sophomore Morgan Duker and freshmen Laney Bowes and Gabrielle Gage received 22nd place (4:18.69) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. The relay team of junior Riley Mayer, sophomore Lexi Hallock and freshman Laney Bowes and Madeline George took 17th place (10:29.79) in the 4x800 Meter Relay.

2023 Butler Varsity Track & Field Invitational

Jacob ThompsonSeveral members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Team competed in the 2023 Butler Invitational, held April 21 at Butler Area Senior High School.  

On the boys team, senior Jacob Thompson was named the Invitational MVP, after earning first place (22.29) in the 200-Meter Dash; first place (49.75) in the 400-Meter Dash; and, with his relay team members, seniors Domenico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer and Jeremy Stephenson, first place (3.27.23) in the 4x400-Meter Relay.

Senior Domenico D’Angelo took 14th place (52.22) in the 400-Meter Dash; and junior Ryan Sheldon received 18th place (16.78) in the 110-Meter Hurdles. Junior Ryan Sheldon took 19th place (43.96) and junior Noah Fleming received 77th place (53.78) in the 300-Meter Hurdles; and, the Boys 4x100-Meter Relay Team took 22nd place (45.53).

Junior Evan Kurpakus earned seventh place (5 feet, 11 inches) and junior Adam Rohrbaugh tied for 33rd place (5 feet, 4 inches) in the High Jump. Senior Kasra Ghadimi tied for 10th place (12 feet, 7 inches) in the Pole Vault.

Junior Wyatt Gamble took 24th place (39 feet, 4 inches) and senior Evan Peaco took 35th place (38 feet, 6.75 inches) in the Triple Jump. Junior Wyatt Gamble tied for 53rd place (18 feet, 7 inches) and senior Evan Peaco tied for 68th place (18 feet) in the Long Jump.

Senior Nico Genco took 43rd place (112 feet, 8 inches) and junior Cooper Courson received 63rd place (97 feet, 8 inches) in the Javelin Throw; junior Augustas Aubrecht received 48th place (38 feet, 0.75 inches) and junior Peyton Randall took 79th place (32 feet, 1.75 inches) in the Shot Put; and, junior Devin Douds received 56th place (92 feet, 10 inches) and junior Peyton Randall took 74th place (77 feet, 10 inches) in the Discus Throw.

On the girls team, sophomore Morgan Duker earned fourth place (58.99) and freshman Laney Bowes took 54th place (1:06.81) in the 400-Meter Dash. Sophomore Morgan Duker took seventh place (26.74) and freshman Tayla Noorda took 52nd place (29.11) in the 200-Meter Dash.

The relay team of junior Riley Mayer, sophomore Morgan Duker, and freshmen Laney Bowes and Gabrielle Gage earned seventh place (4:17.87) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. The Girls 4x800-Meter Relay and 4x100-Meter Relay teams took 14th place (10:34.92) and 19th place (52.46), respectively.

Junior Riley Mayer took 28th place (2:28.13) and sophomore Lexi Hallock received 59th place (2:40.38) in the 800-Meter Run. Senior Rebecca Roberts took 35th place (13.17.36) and junior Reese Hanna received 41st place (13:46.06) in the 3,200-Meter Run.

Junior Reese Hanna took 45th place (5.58.50) and senior Sarah Walsh received 69th place (6:18.04) in the 1,600-Meter Run. Sophomore Lydia Fabian received 80th place (59.34) in the 300-Meter Hurdles.

Senior Maggie Garr tied for 29th place (4 feet, 7 inches) in High Jump; senior Effie Frank tied for 31st place (31 feet, 11.5 inches) and senior Carla Genevro tied for 69th place (29 feet) in the Triple Jump; and, senior Effie Frank tied for 53rd place (14 feet, 5 inches) and junior Morgan Miller tied for 68th place (13 feet, 7.5 inches) in the Long Jump.

Junior Kylie Lavelle received 71st place (63 feet, 4 inches) and junior Lauren Haley took 76th place (53 feet, 3 inches) in the Javelin Throw; junior Delaney Reddinger received 42nd place (26 feet, 11.75 inches) and junior Payton Varrenti took 67th place (23 feet, 1 inch) in the Shot Put; and, junior Lauren Haley took 44th place (77 feet, 1 inch) and junior Delaney Reddinger received 66th place (65 feet) in the Discus Throw.

2023 TSTCA Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the 2023 TSTCA Outdoor Track & Field Championship, held April 15 at West Mifflin High School.

On the boys team, senior Jacob Thompson earned first place (22.05) and sophomore Mason Childress took 52nd place (24.07) in the 200-Meter Dash. Senior Domenico D’Angelo received seventh place (52.18), senior Jeremy Stevenson took 13th place (52.76), and senior Hayden Mayer received 22nd place (53.76) in the 400-Meter Dash.

Freshman Ayden Yocum took 35th place (2:14.60) and freshman Jacob Pietrusinski, received 41st place (2:17.38) in the 800-Meter Run. Freshman Colton Rearick received 70th place (5:36.23) and sophomore Philip Ladesic took 76th place (5:43.62) in the 1,600-Meter Run.

Sophomore Philip Ladesic received 53rd place (12:16.75) and senior Zach Ingram, took 62nd place (13:30.23) in the 3,200-Meter Run. Freshman Colton Rearick took 53rd place (51.70) and sophomore Mike Bridgeman received 56th place (54.46) in the 300-Meter Hurdles.

The relay team of seniors Dominico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson earned second place (3:26.79) in the 4x400-Meter Relay; the relay team of junior Remington Black and freshmen Marco Moran, Jacob Pietrusinski and Ayden Yocum took ninth place (9:18.53) in the 4x800-Meter Relay; and the relay team of seniors Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson and sophomore Mason Childress received 13th place (44.88) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

Senior Kasra Ghadimi earned first place (13 feet) and sophomore Mike Bridgeman tied for 19th place (9 feet) in the Pole Vault. Junior Adam Rohrbaugh, took 22nd place (5 feet, 4 inches) and freshman Chris Recchia received 38th place (5 feet, 1 inch) in the High Jump.

Junior Wyatt Gamble received 31st place (18 feet, 7 inches) in the Long Jump. Junior Wyatt Gamble took 16th place (39 feet, 8 inches) and senior Evan Peaco received 17th place (39 feet, 7 inches) in the Triple Jump.

Junior Augustus Aubrecht, tied for 24th place (37 feet) and sophomore Logan Becker took 45th place (32 feet, 1 inch) in the Shot Put. Sophomore Logan Becker took 18th place (102 feet, 10 inch) in the Discus Throw.

Senior Nick Genco, received 37th place (109 feet, 6 inches); junior Cooper Courson, 40th place (106 feet, 6 inches); and senior Alex Jablunovsky, 57th place (95 feet, 9 inches) in the Javelin Throw.

On the girls team, freshman Laney Bowes took 55th place (30.03) and freshman Gabrielle Gage received 58th place (30.38) in the 200-Meter Dash. Sophomore Morgan Duker earned third place (59.29); freshman Laney Bowes, 34th place (1:07.80), and freshman Gabrielle Gage; 42nd place (1:09.79) in the 400-Meter Dash.

Junior Riley Mayer took 26th place (2:35.55) and sophomore Lexi Hallock received 51st place (2:45.45) in the 800-Meter Run. Senior Sarah Walsh received 41st place (6:08.57) and freshman Madeline George took 44th place (6:09.21) in the 1,600-Meter Run.

Senior Meredith Wawrzynski received 29th place (14:14.55) in the 3,200-Meter Run. Freshman Autumn Flowers earned seventh place (16.09) in the 100-Meter Hurdles.

Senior Carla Genevro took 48th place (28 feet, 6.5 inches) and junior Morgan Miller received 54th place (27 feet, 4.5 inches) in the Triple Jump. Junior Delaney Reddinger received 27th place (25 feet, 11.5 inches); junior Peyton Varrenti, 42nd place (23 feet, 5.5 inches); and freshman Mia Gratton, 57th place (21 feet, 7 inches) in the Shot Put.

Junior Lauren Haley took 42nd place (69 feet, 9 inches), freshman Amanda Lape, tied for 44th place (67 feet, 11 inches), and junior Delaney Reddinger received 61st place (50 feet, 6 inches) in the Discus Throw.

Sophomore Susanna Tomkovicz received 40th place (66 feet, 7 inches); freshman Amanda Lape, 53rd place (58 feet, 5 inches); and junior Kylie Lavell, 55th place (57 feet, 8 inches) in the Javelin Throw.

2021-2022

2022 PIAA Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championship

Several members of Mars Area High School’s Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Team competed in the 2022 PIAA Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championship, held May 27-28 at Shippensburg University.

Senior Lauren Campion took 15th place with a time of 16.21 in the Girls 110-Meter Hurdles. The relay team of juniors Nico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson received 13th place (3:23.72) in the Boys 4x400-Meter Relay.

2022 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championship

Several members of Mars Area High School’s Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Team competed in the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championship, held May 18 at Slippery Rock University.

On the girls team, senior Lauren Campion earned third place with a time of 16.03 in the 110-Meter Hurdles. The relay team of seniors Kalin Wilson and Grace Wu and sophomores Kayleigh Clark and Riley Mayer took seventh place (9:57.31) in the 4x800 Meter Relay.

The relay team of senior Kalin Wilson, sophomores Riley Mayer and Kayleigh Clark, and freshman Morgan Duker took eighth place (4:09.51) in the 4x400 Meter Relay. The relay team of seniors Delaney Butzine, Morgan Beck and Lauren Campion and freshman Morgan Duker took 14th place (51.60) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

On the boys team, junior Jacob Thompson earned fifth place (50.91) in the 400-Meter Dash. Sophomore Ryan Sheldon received 24th place (19.41) in the preliminary round of the 110-Meter Hurdles.

The relay team of junior Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson, Jacob Thompson and Ralph Zatezalo took 10th place (44.19) in the 4x100-Meter Relay. The relay team of seniors Zaccheri Campagna and Anuj Kaul, junior Nico D’Angelo and sophomore Devin Schupp received 18th place (8:41.66) in the 4x800-Meter Relay.

The relay team of juniors Nico D’Angelo, Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson earned third place (3:25.79) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. Senior Jacob Ottenweller took 15th place (43 feet, 7.5 inches) in the Shot Put.

2022 Butler County Classic

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams competed in the Butler County Classic, held April 2 at Seneca Valley Senior High School.

On the girls team, senior Lauren Campion earned first place and set a new school record with a time of 15:55 in the 100-Meter Hurdles. Senior Gillian Porter took 14th place (59.44); freshman Jaya Kalieda, 17th place (1:03.56); and freshman Fallon Bright, 18th place (1:09.01) in the 300-Meter Hurdles.

Freshman Morgan Duker earned first place (1:03.21) and senior Kalin Wilson took second place (1:03.88) in the 400-Meter Dash. Senior Lauren Campion earned second place (27.13); freshman Morgan Duker, fourth place (28.21); and freshman Hannah Todd, 14th place (31.41), in the 100-Meter Dash.

Sophomore Riley Mayer earned second place (2:33.02); senior Sidney Jaeger (2:47.59), eighth place; junior Sarah Walsh, 10th place (2:53.27); and junior Rebecca Roberts, 15th place (2:58.00), in the 800-Meter Run. Senior Grace Wu took third place (5:34.67); sophomore Brooke Beck, 11th place (6:22.71); junior Sarah Walsh, 12th place (6:23.53); junior Rebecca Roberts, 15th place (6:31.89), in the 1,600-Meter Run.

Junior Meredith Wawrzynski took eighth place (13:51.27) and sophomore Brooke Bowes received 10th place (14:14.84) in the 3,200-Meter Run. The relay team of seniors Morgan Beck, Delaney Butzine and Lauren Campion and freshman Morgan Duker earned first place (52.17) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

The relay team of seniors Lauren Campion, Kalin Wilson and Grace Wu and sophomore Riley Mayer took second place (4:29.89) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. The relay team of seniors Sidney Jaeger, Kalin Wilson and Grace Wu sophomore Riley Mayer earned second place (10:27.89) in the 4x800-Meter Relay.

Senior Kristin Bayuk and sophomore Vivian Frank both tied for 11th place with a height of (6 feet) in the Pole Vault. Senior Delaney Butzine earned eighth place (14 feet, 11 inches); senior Morgan Beck, ninth place (14 feet, 4.5 inches); senior Kristin Bayuk, 17th place (12 feet, 5.5 inches); and junior Taylor Hollern, 20th place (12 feet) in the Long Jump.

Junior Effie Frank received ninth place (30 feet, 6.25 inches); senior Emily Walsh, 12th place (29 feet, 3 inches); senior Delaney Butzine, 16th place (28 feet. 1 inch); senior Olivia Spotti, 17th place (27 feet, 2 inches), in the Triple Jump. Sophomore Peyton Varenti received 17th place (20 feet, 3 inches) in the Shot Put.

Senior Gregory Chernosky received seventh place (4:53.16); senior Jack Olshenske, 10th place (4:58.22); and sophomore Brady Spoores, 13th place (5:01.83) in the 1,600-Meter Run. Senior Gregory Chernosky received seventh place (10:35.87) and senior Jack Olshenske, 11th place (10:53.41) in the 3,200-Meter Run.

Sophomore Ryan Sheldon took seventh place (48.47) and Alexander Kostial received 11th place (49.71) in the 300-Meter Hurdles. The relay team of juniors Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson, Jacob Thompson and Ralph Zatezalo earned second place (44.96) in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

The relay team of senior Zaccheri Campagna and juniors Hayden Mayer, Jeremy Stevenson and Jacob Thompson tied for first place (3:33.55) in the 4x400-Meter Relay. The relay team of seniors Zaccheri Campagna, Anuj Kaul, Jack Olshenske and Devin Schupp took second place (8:43.98) in the 4x800-Meter Relay.

Sophomore Evan Kurpakus tied for sixth place (5 feet, 6 inches) and junior Evan Peaco and sophomore Adam Rohrbaugh tied for ninth place (5 feet, 4 inches) in the High Jump. Senior Nicholas Kalieda took fourth place (11 feet); and junior Kasra Ghadami and sophomore Grant Pierce tied for 12th place (9 feet) in the Pole Vault.

Seniors Zaccheri Campagna received 12th place (16 feet, 9.5 inches); freshman Nicholes Wright, 15th place (16 feet, 3.25 inches); and sophomore Adam Rohrbaugh, 16th place (16 feet, 2.5 inches) in the Long Jump. Sophomore Wyatt Gamble received 10th place (35 feet, 8.5 inches) and sophomore Adam Rohrbaugh, 11th place (34 feet, 6 inches) in the Triple Jump.

Senior Jacob Ottenweller tied for fifth place (42 feet, 8 inches); senior Colin App, eighth place (40 feet, 5 inches); senior Matthew Detisch, 10th place (38 feet, 3 inches); and freshman Logan Becker, 20th place (32 feet) in the Shot Put.

Senior Jacob Ottenweller earned fourth place (121 feet, 1 inch); senior Nicholas Kalieda, 12th place (96 feet, 8 inches); freshman Logan Becker, 17th place (83 feet, 6 inches); and senior Matthew Detisch, 18th place (80 feet, 5 inches) in the Discus Throw.
