To prepare students-athletes and coaches for new health and safety procedures outlined in
Mars Area School District's Athletics Health & Safety Plan , the District is offering voluntary, no-contact practices for several sports teams.
Note: Attendance at all listed practices is voluntary. Non-participation will not negatively affect a student-athlete’s selection for a sports team and/or play time. Student-athletes are asked to arrive 10 minutes before each practice session to permit additional time to complete health assessments. Parents are not permitted to attend any practices until further notice.
In accordance with the District's Athletics Health & Safety Plan, all student-athletes are required to submit a completed Athletics Participation Waiver in order to be eligible to join in District athletics programs during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In addition, each student-athlete will submit to a daily general health assessment and his/her temperature will be taken. Any student-athlete with a temperature of 100.4 or higher or without a signed waiver will be sent home with a parent and/or guardian.
All coaches and student-athletes are required to practice social distancing as well as to wear a face covering (mask or face shield), when feasible, during any practices and/or games, said Heinauer. Hand sanitizers are available at all practice sites and all facilities and equipment will be sanitized before practice, during practice and after each session.
Mars Area School District will continue to follow recommended precautions from federal, state and local governments as well as the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH), the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS), and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA).
As knowledge regarding COVID-19 is continuously changing and new information and treatments become available, precautions may be adjusted, as needed, to decrease the risk of exposure for District’s staff, students and spectators.
