Five members of Mars Area High School Student Council attended the 2019 PASC (Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils) Student Summit, held March 7 at The Pennsylvania Capitol (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Seniors Alexis Bonifate, April Bonifate and Maria Heintzinger; and juniors Michael Crowley and Alex Ola were each assigned to one of five topics — Opioid Crisis, Career Readiness, Gun Control, National Security or Sexual Harassment. Representatives of the Pennsylvania Department of State spoke with students about how they could become more involved in local government and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman offered his views on each of the assigned topics.

The students then worked within groups of student council representatives from high schools across the state to develop methods for addressing the problems associated with the topics and how to create awareness about each. Each student group then presented its ideas to student council representatives and their advisors in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives Chamber.
