Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Lacrosse Teams are listed among the best players in the region.
On the boys team, seniors Michael Doyle (attack), Garrett Reinke (midfield) and Nathan Smith (defense) were named to the 2019 All-WPIAL and All-Section 1-2A Boys Lacrosse Teams. Seniors Gavin Honeycutt (goalie), Zane Mundy (midfield) and Christopher Sicher (attack) were also selected for the 2019 All-Section Team.
This season, the Fightin’ Planets won their fourth consecutive WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship Title as well as the Section 1-2A title. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship.
On the girls team, seniors Gianna Buzzelli (attack) and Paige Seles (offense) were named to the 2019 All-WPIAL and All-Section 2-2A Girls Lacrosse Teams. This season, the Lady Planets advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championship.

Also of note, junior Mara Fuller (defense), sophomore Carly Kern (defense) and freshman Kailey Phillips (goalie) competed as members of the Pittsburgh Team, which took third place with an overall record of 3-1 in the Iroquios Division.

2019 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship
Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship on June 1, but was defeated 13-8 by the Hershey Trojans.
The Fightin’ Planets trampled the Trinity Shamrocks 22-12 in the first round of the PIAA Playoffs on May 31. The team advanced to the state competition after toppling the Hampton Talbots 9-8 in overtime in the final game of the 2019 WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship on May 24 and winning the team’s fourth consecutive WPIAL title.
The team swatted the Freeport Yellowjackets 19-5 in the WPIAL semifinals on May 20; and tamed the Franklin Regional Panthers 16-1 in the quarterfinals on May 16. The Planets ended the regular season with an overall record of 15-3 and 8-0 in section play, earning the 2019 Section 1-2A title.

WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championship
Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championship on May 15, but was defeated 10-8 by the Seton LaSalle Rebels.
The Lady Planets tamed the Plum Mustangs 18-6 in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs on May 13. The team ended the regular season with an overall record of 9-5 and 6-2 in Section 2-2A play.

Junior Earns 100th Career Point
Fuller achieved the milestone on April 5, when she helped to lead the Lady Planets in their 10-9 defeat of the Fox Chapel Foxes. To date, Fuller has scored a total of 105 goals and had 76 assists.
