Mars Area senior Megan Hand, a student in A.W. Beattie Career Center, was named Senior of the Year in the vocational-technical school’s Veterinary Sciences Technology program.
“Being at Beattie has led me to the path I want to be on, and I will go to the Vet Tech Institute,” said Hand. “It’s definitely an early start in the right direction.”
Mars Area High School students who are interested in learning a trade typically attend Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School; however, as the school does not offer a Veterinary Sciences Technology program, Hand is enrolled at A.W. Beattie Career Center.
The program offers students experience in maintaining medical records and schedules; offering client education; exploring authentic laboratory procedures; assisting with nursing and preparation for surgical duties; and conducting routine exams.
“(Hand) is exceedingly kind and compassionate toward animals and has a bright future in veterinary medicine,” said Megan Chuckery and Jen Evanitsky, Veterinary Sciences Technology instructors.
