Mars Area graduates Jack Ramsey and Megan Hooper were named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2019, respectively.
Ramsey, valedictorian, was a member of Key Club, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. He also played the viola in the Mars Area High School Orchestra.
He was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program; and was also selected to receive a 2019 U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award and the 2019 Callery STEM (Science, Technology Engineering Mathematics) Scholarship. In the community, he participates in Muay Thai
kickboxing at the Pittsburgh Academy of Martial Arts & Fitness.
Ramsey plans to attend Pennsylvania State University as an industrial engineering major.
Hooper, salutatorian, was a member of Mars Area High School’s Book Club, Future Medical Providers chapter, Key Club, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. She was also a four-year member of the school’s Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team.
She was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, and she received the 2019 Mars Area High School Swimming & Diving Boosters Scholarship. In the community, Hooper volunteers at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Hooper will attend the University of Richmond as a biochemistry major, as she plans to pursue a career in a medical field.
