2019 PIAA Class 3A Cross Country Championship
Mars Area High School senior Zachary Leachman competed in the 2019 PIAA Class 3A Cross Country Championship, held Nov. 2 at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey Pa.).
Leachman, a member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Cross Country Team, placed 19th (out of 227 runners) with a time of 16:23.2. He advanced to the state championships after taking third place at the 2019 WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country Championship on Oct. 24.
“(Zach’s) place of 19th is the best place ever for a Mars Cross Country runner at a state championship,” said Joe Cioc, head coach. “And, Zach is the only Mars Cross Country runner, girl or boy, to have medals at a PIAA meet twice in his career.”

2019 WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country Championship
Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2019 WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country Championship, held Oct. 24 at California University of Pennsylvania.
The boys team took 12th place overall with 362 points and an average time of 18:17. Senior Zachary Leachman earned third place with a time of 16:10; senior Dylan Becker, 55th place (18:14); sophomore Jack Olshenske, 76th place (18:35); freshman Ryan Steigerwald, 100th place (19:03); sophomore John Dunn, 128th place (19:23); senior Connor McChesney, 172nd place (20:23); and sophomore Anuj Kaul, 193rd place (21:45).
The girls team received 23rd place overall with 619 points and an average time of 23:59. The boys team took 13th place overall with 349 points and an average time of 18:09. Members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 13th annual PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) Foundation Class 3A Cross Country Invitational, held Sept. 21 in Hershey, Pa.
On the boys team, senior Zachary Leachman earned second place with a time of 16:29; sophomore Jack Olshenske, 137th place (18:40); senior Dylan Becker, 160th place (18:52); freshman Ryan Steigerwald, 225th place (19:23); sophomore John Dunn, 286th place (20:10); and sophomore Lucas Kuremsky, 324th place (21:38); The boys team placed 34th overall with 793 points and an average time of 18:42.
