Six Mars Area High School seniors signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level:
Joseph Craska signed a letter of intent to join the Highlanders Men’s Baseball Team at New Jersey Institute of Technology (Newark N.J.), where he plans to major in business or history.
Craska is a four-year members of Mars Area High School Baseball Team, which took fourth place 2019 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship. In 2018, the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Boys Varsity Baseball Championship.
At Mars Area High School, Craska is also a four-year member of the Boys Varsity Basketball Team and Chess Club.
Mara Fuller signed a letter of intent to join the Golden Flashes Women’s Lacrosse Team at Kent State University (Kent, Ohio), where she plans to major in communications and minor in marketing.
Fuller, a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2019 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championship. She was selected for the 2019 Pittsburgh National Women’s Lacrosse Team that took third place in the Iroquois Division of the 2019 U.S. Women’s National Lacrosse Tournament.
At Mars Area High School, Fuller was also a member of the Girls Varsity Basketball Team and Key Club.
Taylor Hamlett signed a letter of intent to join the Blue Raider Women’s Soccer Team at Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), where she plans to major in nursing.
Hamlett is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which is competing in the final game of the 2019 PIAA Class 3A Girls Soccer Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2. The team advance to the state playoffs after winning the 2019 WPIAL Class 3A Championship Title.
At Mars Area High School, Hamlett is a member of the school’s AFS/MISA Chapter, Key Club, National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. In the community, she is a member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds ECNL (Elite Clubs National League).
Carsyn Hetzler signed a letter of intent to join the Mountaineers Women’s Track & Field Team at Mount St. Mary’s University (Emmitsburg, Md.), where she has yet to declare a major.
Hetzler was a three-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Track & Field Team, competing in the high jump, long jump, triple jump and 4x100 events. In 2019, she took 22nd place in the Triple Jump at the PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Track & Field Championships as well as third place in the Triple Jump and 21st place in the Long Jump at the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Track & Field Championships.
At Mars Area High School, Hetzler is a member of Key Club. She was also a member of the Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team during her freshman year.
Madison Myers signed a letter of intent to join the Oilers Women’s Track & Field Team at the University of Findlay (Findlay, Ohio), where she plans to major in pre-veterinary animal science.
During her junior year, Myers was a member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Track & Field Team, competing in the long jump and triple jump events. In 2019, she earned seventh place in the Long Jump at the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Track & Field Championships.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Spanish National Honor Society.
Bella Pelaia signed a letter of intent to join the Mountaineers Women’s Basketball Team at Mount St. Mary’s University (Emmitsburg, Md.), where she plans to major in bio-chemistry/pre-med.
Pelaia is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018-2019 WPIAL Class 5A Girls Varsity Basketball Championship. During the 2017-2018 Season, the team won the PIAA Class 5A Girls Varsity Basketball Championship Title; took fourth place in the WPIAL Class 5A Girls Varsity Basketball Championship; and tied for the Section 4-5A title.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of German National Honor Society, Key Club, National Honor Society, REACH (Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help), and she plays piano. In the community, she also plays with the Western PA Bruins Basketball AAU Team.
