Weitzell is a student in the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre Pre-Professional Division, an intensive dancer training program open to high school students by audition or invitation only. She will dance in the role of the Blue Butterfly in six performances of The Nutcracker on Dec. 8, 20, 26 and 28.
The annual performance follows the journey a Clara into a land of enchantment, where she aids the Nutcracker in his battle against the Mouse King. The classic ballet is set to music of Tchaikovsky and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s production is set in turn-of-the-century Pittsburgh.
