Mars Area High School senior Michael Carmody was named a 2020 All-American high school football player.
Representatives of the “2020 All-American Bowl | Road to the Dome” Tour announced Carmody’s selection and presented him with his “All-American” jersey at a school assembly on Dec. 13. The annual honor is bestowed upon the nation’s top 100 high school football players who are chosen based on their talent, skill set and work ethic.
As an All-American, Carmody will play in 20th anniversary All-American Bowl East vs. West matchup at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at the Alamodome (San Antonio, Texas). The bowl game will be nationally televised live on NBC stations.
“Participating in the All-American Bowl is truly one of the highlights of my life. Knowing that I will be walking out onto the field with the very best high school football players in America is humbling,” said Carmody. “To be part of the community of coaches and athletes who continue to push themselves to get better is why I am so excited to represent our school.”
“It’s a great honor to have someone from our football team chosen for this game,” said Scott Heinauer, athletic director and head football coach “We look forward to (him) playing college football.”
Carmody has committed to join the Fighting Irish Football Team at the University of Notre Dame. A three-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Football Team, Carmody is the No. 2 overall ranked player in Pennsylvania and the No. 13 offensive tackle and was recruited by more than 40 Division 1 schools.
This season, Carmody helped to lead the Fightin’ Planets to the first round of the 2019 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Football Championship. The team ended the regular season with an overall record of 6-4 and 4-3 in Section 3-5A of the Northern Conference.
He was named to the 2019 Western Pennsylvania Big 5/6 Athletic Conference Section 3-5A Football All-Conference First Team Offense and to the Pennsylvania Football Writers 2018 Class 5A All-State First Team.
