SWIMMING/DIVING NEWS (updated 03.02.20)

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2020 WPIAL Swimming Championships, held Feb. 27-28 at the University of Pittsburgh Trees Pool.

The girls team placed 16th overall in 3A competition with a score of 45 points. The boys team took 19th place overall in 2A competition with 40 points.

In individual competition on the boys team, junior Aidan Wolf earned sixth place (1:51.13) and senior Zach Leachman took 16th place (1:53.51) in the 200-Yard Freestyle. Junior Aidan Wolf took 10th place (5:05.28) and senior Zach Leachman received 12th place (5:06.49) in the 500-Yard Freestyle.

Senior Hayden Silsby took 19th place (58.37) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Freshman Leo Saver received 26th place (24.33) in the 50-Yard Freestyle; and, sophomore Jacob Harsch received 31st place (53.66) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

The team of seniors Zach Leachman and Will Allison, junior Aidan Wolf, and sophomore Jacob Harsch took 13th place (3:32.33) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of seniors Will Allison and Hayden Silsby, sophomore Jacob Harsch, and freshman Leo Saver took 16th place (1:52.27) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

On the girls team, junior Megan Smith earned seventh place (1:07.50); junior Abigail Scott, 21st place (1:09.99); and freshman Riley Connelly, 25th place (1:10.80) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Junior Megan Smith took eighth place (2:10.72) in the 200-Yard IM.

Freshman Riley Connelly earned 23rd place (25.54) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. The team of senior Caroline Stamper, junior Megan Smith, sophomore Sarah Hooper and freshman Riley Connelly took 11th place (1:40.97) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

The team of senior Caroline Stamper, sophomore Sarah Hooper, and freshmen Natalie Stasiowski and McKenzie VanIddekinge earned 20th place (3:49.88) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of senior Caroline Stamper, juniors Abigail Scott and Megan Smith, and freshman Riley Connelly earned 12th place (1:51.88) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

WPIAL Class 3A Diving Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Diving Teams competed in the 2019-2020 WPIAL Class 3A Diving Championships, held Feb. 21-22 at North Allegheny Senior High School.

Sophomore Kevin Butler took 13th place with a score of 261.10 in the boys diving qualifier. Senior Maddie Mueller earned 18th place (236.55) and sophomore Kirsten Maybach received 24th place (136.80) in the girls diving qualifier.

2020 MAC Class 3A Varsity Swimming & Diving Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2020 MAC Class 3A Varsity Swimming & Diving Championships, held Feb. 14-15 at Moon Area High School.

The girls team placed second overall with a score of 340 and the boys team took fourth place (216).

In individual competition on the girls team, sophomore Kirsten Maybach took third place with a score of 329.10; senior Maddie Mueller, fourth place (323.15); sophomore Kellen Fletcher, sixth place (298.85); and sophomore Rylan Farnham, ninth place (279.95) in One-Meter Diving.

Junior Megan Smith earned second place (2:10.89) and junior Abigail Scott received 10th place (2:33.24) in the 200-Yard IM. Junior Megan Smith took second place (1:00.81); sophomore Isabella Pellegrino, 11th place (1:10.73); freshman Shannon Sticinski, 19th place (1:15.86); and junior Olivia Ashbaugh, 25th place (1:17.79) in the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Freshman Riley Connelly earned third place (1:11.16); junior Abigail Scott, fourth place (1:11.26); sophomore Sarah Hooper, seventh place (1:13.54); and sophomore Danielle Sticinski, 16th place (1:26.64), in the 100-Yard Breaststroke.

Senior Caroline Stamper earned third place (25.72); freshman Natalie Stasioski, fifth place (25.98); sophomore Sarah Hooper, sixth place (26.05); and senior Grace Huff, 32nd place (30.18) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Freshman Riley Connelly took sixth place (56.34); senior Caroline Stamper, 10th place (57.60); senior Grace Huff, 27th place (1:06.12); and sophomore Sophie Huff, 28th place (1:06.34) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

Freshman McKenzie VanIddekinge earned sixth place (5:55.42) and sophomore Eliza Matusek took 15th place (6:30.40) in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Freshman McKenzie VanIddekinge took seventh place (2:10.57) and sophomore Eliza Matusek received 18th place (2:21.80) in the 200-Yard Freestyle. Freshman Natalie Stasiowski received 12th place (1:08.39); sophomore Isabella Pellegrino, 14th place (1:11.05); and sophomore Sophie Huff, 21st place (1:18.30) in the 100-Yard Butterfly.

The team of senior Caroline Stamper, juniors Abigail Scott and Megan Smith, and freshman Riley Connelly earned second place (1:53.43) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The team of senior Caroline Stamper, junior Megan Smith, sophomore Sarah Hooper and freshman Riley Connelly placed second (1:40.72) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

The team of sophomores Sarah Hooper and Isabella Pellegrino, and freshmen Natalie Stasiowski and McKenzie VanIddekinge earned fourth place (3:56.71) in the 400-Yard Freestyle.

On the boys team, senior Rachel Ronczka took third place with a score of 247.30 and sophomore Kevin Butler received fourth place (242.55) in One-Meter Diving.

Senior Hayden Silsby earned fourth place (57.71) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Sophomore Jacob Harsch received eighth place (2:18.68) in the 200-Yard IM.

Freshman Leo Saver took 11th place (24.40); senior Will Allison, 13th place (24.78); sophomore Kevin Butler, 20th place (25.92); and sophomore Nathan Silsby, 33rd place (27.00) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Sophomore Jacob Harsch took 13th place (54.58); freshman Leo Saver tied for 20th place (56.05); and senior Will Allison received 22nd place (56.55) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

The team of senior Zach Leachman, junior Aidan Wolf, sophomore Jacob Harsch and freshman Leo Saver took fourth place (3:36.06) in the 400-Yard Freestyle. The team of seniors Will Allison and Hayden Silsby, sophomore Jacob Harsch, and freshman Leo Saver took fifth place (1:52.42) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.
