Swimmers Compete in YMCA West District Event

Several Mars Area students represented Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA (Cranberry Township) at the 2020 YMCA Pennsylvania Western District Swimming Championships, held March 6-7 at SPIRE Institute Aquatic Center (Geneva, Ohio). 

In 15&Over competition, junior Abigail Scott earned first place with a time of 1:09.15 and sophomore Sarah Hooper took seventh place (1:11.86) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Junior Abigail Scott earned second place (2:32.59) in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.

Sophomore Sarah Hooper tied for 12th place (26.23); freshman Natalie Stasiowski took 16th place (26.44); and freshman McKenzie Van Iddekinge received 24th place (26.76) in the 50-Yard Freestyle.

Sophomore Sarah Hooper received 16th place (57.65) and freshman Natalie Stasiowski received 19th place (58.06) in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Freshman McKenzie Van Iddekinge received 16th place (2:27.37) in the 200-Yard Freestyle and 17th place (5:54.71) in the 500-Yard Freestyle.

The team of junior Abigail Scott, freshman Natalie Stasiowski, and two others earned third place (1:54.98) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of sophomore Sarah Hooper, freshman Natalie Stasiowski, and two others earned fourth place (3:46.10) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.

Senior Hayden Silsby received 14th place (57.52) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Sophomore Jacob Harsch received 22nd place (54.62) in the 100-Yard Freestyle; and, 25th place (24.52) in the 50-Yard Freestyle.

The team of senior Hayden Silsby, sophomore Jacob Harsch, and two other took 10th place (3:54.42) in the 400-Yard Medley Relay. The team of senior Hayden Silsby, sophomore Jacob Harsch, and two other participated in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

In 13-14 competition, eighth-grader Bryn Wilson earned seventh place (2:30.50) in the 200-Yard Butterfly; 13th place (1:07.72) in the 100-Yard Butterfly; and 20th place (1:00.23) in the 100-Yard Freestyle. The team of eighth-graders Nora Solich and Bryn Wilson, and two others took 12th place (1:53.19) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

Eighth-grader Ethan Vitale took 11th place (1:07.35) and eighth-grader Brady Spoores took 21st place (1:10.51) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Eighth-grader Ethan Vitale received 19th place (26.05) and eighth-grader Brady Spoores tied for 28th place (27.28) in the 50-Yard Freestyle; and, eighth-grader Ethan Vitale took 14th place (2:30.74) in the 200-Yard IM.

The team of eighth-grader Brady Spoores, seventh-graders Ryan Babeo and Samuel Joliat, and one other took 12th place (2:14.47) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The team of eighth-graders Brady Spoores and Ethan Vitale and two others earned fifth place (1:44.56) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

In 11-12 competition, seventh-grader Victoria Symchak received 33rd place (39.49) in the 50-Yard Breaststroke. Seventh-grader Sarah Maloney received 34th place (35.89) in the 50-Yard Butterfly.

Seventh-grader Sarah Maloney received 53rd place (31.28) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. The team of seventh-graders Sarah Maloney and Victoria Symchak and two others participated in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

Seventh-grader Sean Muchnok earned first place (32.99) in the 50-Yard Breaststroke; first place (1:15.02) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke; and sixth place (2:37.81) in the 200-Yard IM. Seventh-grader Alexander Harrison took 14th place (29.25) in the 50-Yard Freestyle and 19th place (1:07.59) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

The team of seventh-graders Alexander Harrison and Sean Muchnok, and two others earned third place (2:10.93) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. The team of seventh-grader Alexander Harrison and three others earned sixth place (2:02.53) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

In 10&Under competition, fourth-grader Anthony Vanatta took ninth place (40.92) in the 50-Yard Butterfly; 16th place (34.02) in the 50-Yard Freestyle; and 24th place (1:20.81) in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Fifth-grader Gavin Best received 25th place (42.11) in the 50-Yard Backstroke.

The team of fourth-grader Anthony Vanatta and three others earned third place (2:12.94) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of fifth-grader Gavin Best and three others took ninth place (2:42.70) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

Note: Individual swimmers and relay teams that placed in the top six will advance to the 2019 Pennsylvania State YMCA Championships, to be held March 20-22 at Pennsylvania State University’s McCoy Natatorium (University Park, Pa.)
