Numerous Mars Area High School students were inducted into the Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) Chapter for the 2019-2020 School Year.
Note: The induction was originally scheduled for April 2020, but was postponed because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. No formal induction ceremony was held.
Students are seniors Ian Buttermore, Lucas Elder, Madeleine Horvath, Megan Mann, Erin Rodgers and Grant Thompson; and juniors Kristin Bayuk, Zaccheri Campagna, Jacob Caringola, Leana Cuzzocrea, Jocelyn Esswein, Jordan Esswein, Julia Fletcher, John Fratto, Reagan Gales, Meredith Gaura, Kyleigh Gianfrancesco, Matthew Hannan, Sarah Hooper, Kelsey Hulbert, Cecelia Joliat, Anuj Kaul, Tyler Kearney, Addison Keys, Tucker Kush, Eliza Matusek, Ethan McMaster, Lauren Miko, Isabella Pellegrino, Karina Quinn, Allison Rice, Max Solich, Angelina Tsao, Emily Walsh and Jessica Winters.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are enrolled in Spanish. To be eligible for participation, students must have a minimum of 90 percent in each level of Spanish, an average GPA of 3.6; and must commit to complete all four years of the language.
The goal of honor society, which is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.
