Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams are listed among the best runners in Butler County.

Junior John Dunn and Jack Olshenske were named to the 2020 Boys Cross Country All-Star Second Team. Junior Gregory Chernosky received an honorable mention.

Junior Kailin Wilson was named to the 2020 Girls Cross Country All-Star Second Team. Freshman Jamie Fletcher was selected for an honorable mention.

2020 WPIAL Cross Country Championships

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2020 WPIAL Class 2A and 3A Cross Country Championships, respectively, held Oct. 28-29 at White Oak Park.

The boys team took 16th place overall with 437 points and an average time of 18:59. Junior Jack Olshenske, earned 31st place (17:32); sophomore Gregory Chernosky, 49th place (17:52); junior John Dunn, 67th place (18:12); sophomore Jeremy Stevenson, 139th place (20:26); sophomore Ralph Zatezalo, 151st place (20:53); freshman Sebastian Slatniske, 156th place (21:14); and, sophomore Kasra Ghadimi, 168th place (21:56).

The girls team received 21st place overall with 588 points and an average time of 22:34. Junior Kalin Wilson, took 77th place (21:34); freshman Jamie Fletcher 81st place (21:41); junior Eliza Matusek, 126th place (22:32); freshman Brooke Bowes, 149 place (23:15); sophomore Sarah Walsh, 155th place (23:44); freshman Brooke Beck, 157th place (23:45); and, sophomore Rebecca Roberts, 162nd place (24:01);

2020 TSTCA Cross Country Championship

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2020 TSTCA (Tri-State Track & Field Coaches Association) Class 3A Cross Country Championship, held Oct. 22 at White Oak Park.

The boys team took18th place overall with 526 points and an average time of 19:20. Junior Jack Olshenske, earned 48th place (17:40.86); sophomore Gregory Chernosky, 72nd place (18:13.39); junior John Dunn, 90th place (18:27.34); sophomore Jeremy Stevenson, 211th place (20:55.87); freshman Sebastian Slatniske, 228th place (21:23.35); sophomore Ralph Zatezalo, 233rd place (21:34.23); and sophomore Kasra Ghadimi, 250th place (22:46.36).

The girls team received 21st place overall with 562 points and an average time of 22:54. Freshman Jamie Fletcher took 100th place (22:16.40); junior Kalin Wilson, 120th place (22:43.32); freshman Brooke Bowes, 130th place (22:58.56; junior Eliza Matusek, 140th place (23:15.51); freshman Brooke Beck, 142nd place (23:18.96); sophomore Rebecca Roberts, 147th place (23:30.96); sophomore Sarah Walsh, 150th place (23:34.21); freshman Bella Morales, 164th place (23:54.64); and sophomore Meredith Wawrzynski, 213th place (26:04.79).
