Several members of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team are listed among the best players in the region.

Senior Elizabeth Long was named to the 2020 Class 3A Girls Volleyball All-State Team. Senior Elizabeth Long was selected for the 2020 All-WPIAL Girls Volleyball First Team and junior Ava Black to the Second Team.

Senior Elizabeth Long, junior Ava Black and sophomore Anna Pietrusinski were named to the All-Section (5-3A) First Team; sophomore Lauren Atwell to the Second Team; and seniors Sydney Bucknum and Kathryn Schlegel to the Third Team.

This season, the Lady Planets advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2020 WPIAL Class 3A Girls Volleyball Championship. The team ended the 2020 regular season with an overall record of 9-4 and 9-3 in Section 5-3A play.

2020 WPIAL Class 3A Girls Volleyball Championship

Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team competed in the quarterfinals of the 2020 WPIAL Class 3A Girls Volleyball Championship on Nov. 2, but was defeated 3-0 by the Beaver Area Bobcats.

The Lady Planets repelled the Hopewell Vikings 3-0 in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs on Oct. 29. The team ended the 2020 regular season with an overall record of 9-4 and 9-3 in Section 5-3A play.

Players on this year’s team included seniors Sydney Bucknum, Beth Long, Emily Mayer and Katie Schlegel; juniors Ava Black and Yumeno Ikeda; sophomores Lauren Atwell, Ava Donnelly, Talia Lamm, Emma Libert, Lucie Morlino, Kate Muchnok, Hayley Nicklas, Anna Pietrusinski and Megan Yanief; and, freshmen Emma Balazentis, Sophia Bucknum, Emily Long, Riley Mayer, Emma McCosby, Madison Reinhart, Taylor Schmitt and Lilyanna Staines.
