Two members of Mars Area High School Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the 2025-2026 PIAA West Regional Boys Varsity Wrestling Individual Championships, held Feb. 27-28 at Canon-McMillan High School (Canonsburg, Pa.).

Mars Area High School Varsity Wrestling Team is taking down the competition this season.
On Jan. 3, the team placed fourth overall with 150.5 points at the 2025 Ed Driscoll Boys Varsity Wrestling MAC Tournament.
Individually, freshman Olympic Serrao earned first place in the 139-pound weight class and freshman Ben Goehring (127) took third place; sophomore Sam Passarelli (145) and freshman Parker Joseph (133), fourth place; junior Chester Harsch (148), fifth place; junior Paxton Hartle (152), junior Phoenix Ross (215), sophomore Beckett Szczesniak (121), freshman Ty Carson (107) and freshman Gavin Shuck (114), sixth place; and, sophomore Liam Corcoran (189), seventh place, in their respective weight classes. Returning wrestlers on this year’s team also include senior Joseph Zottola, who along with Passarelli, competed in the 2025 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling Championships. Corcoran, Hartle, Passarelli, Szczesniak, Zotolla, along with seniors Andy Diaz and Rain Moran and junior Brian Biaku, competed in the 2024-2025 Boys Varsity Wrestling Class 3A Northern Sectional Tournament.
Also returning to the team are junior Adam Genevro and Xavier Zottola. Rounding out the team are junior Anderson Choffel; and sophomore Aidan Sudetic.

2025 PIAA Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling West Regionals
Senior Liam Hein competed in the 2025 PIAA Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling West Regionals, held Feb. 28-March 1 at Canon-McMillan High School
Hein, a member of Mars Area High School Varsity Wrestling Team, competed in the 145-pound weight class Round of 16. He advanced to regionals after taking sixth place in the 2025 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling Championships.

Mars Area High School Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the Chartiers-Houston Invitational, held Dec. 6-7 at Chartiers-Houston High School (McGovern, Pa.).
The Fightin Planets took 19th place overall with 69 points. Senior Liam Hein earned fifth place in the 152-pound weight class. Freshman Samuel Passarelli (121) took fifth place and junior Joseph Zottola (172) took sixth place in their respective weight classes.

Three members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the 2024 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling Individual Championships, held March 1-2 at Canon-McMillan High School (Canonsburg, Pa.).
Senior Augustus Aubrecht competed in the 215-pound weight class; senior Cooper Courson in the 160-pound weight class; and junior Liam Hein in the 45-pound weight class. All three advanced to the WPIAL Championships after placing in the 2024 Class 3A Boys Varsity Wrestling Northern Sectional Championships on Feb. 24.

Mars Area High School senior Rocco Darocy participated in the 2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Wrestling Championships, held March 3-4 at Canon-McMillan High School (Canonsburg, Pa.)
Darocy competed in the preliminary round for in the 139-pound weight class. He advanced to the WPIAL event after taking sixth place in the 2023 Class 3A Varsity Wrestling Northern Sectional Championships on Feb. 25.

2021 Section 3-3A Boys Varsity Wrestling Individual Championships
Several members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the 2021 Section 3-3A Sub-Section 3B Boys Varsity Wrestling Individual Championships, held Feb. 20 at North Allegheny Senior High School.
Senior Keith Brubach and junior Christian Scheller earned first place in the 172-pound and 152-pound weight classes, respectively in sub-section competition. Sophomore Rocco Darocy (126) and sophomore Jonathan Grieco (138) took second place; senior Davis Luedtke (145) and junior Eli Wright (160) took third place; and sophomore Logan Santa (189) took fourth place.
Brubach took first place overall in section competition and will advance to the 2021 WPIAL Class 3A Wrestling Championships, to be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Canon-McMillan High School. Darocy, Grieco and Scheller each placed third overall in their respective weight classes.

Section 3-3A Varsity Team Wrestling Tournament
Mars Area High School Varsity Wrestling Team competed in the 2020-2021 Section 3-3A Varsity Team Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 8.
The Fightin’ Planets advanced to the quarterfinal round of the competition. Entering into the team playoffs, the Planets had a 4-13 overall record and are 2-2 in section competition.
