Mars Area High School’s Mars Indoor Percussion and Mars Area Winterguard teams will both advance to the semifinals of the virtual 2021 WGI (Winterguard International) competition.
In a typical school year, team members would be invited to perform alongside their peers from other high schools at regional and other events. However, in an effort to limit any potential risk of COVID exposure, this school year, teams were asked to record and submit their performances.
Judges from across the nation then evaluated the performances alongside entries from numerous other high schools ensembles. The Top 50 Percent were selected to advance to the semifinals in early April.
Mars Indoor Percussion was recognized for the performance of its show entitled “Turn on the Light.” And, Mars Area Winterguard was chosen to advance for its performance of “A Feeling So Peculiar.”
“We will continue to compete in other shows throughout the month of March, but have already punched our tickets to the next round in April,” says Dave Soose, Mars Indoor Percussion director. “We are so incredibly thrilled for our students and the success of both programs.”
