Mars Area High School seniors Alek Johnson and Elizabeth Long will advance to take the 2021 U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) Exam, to be administered virtually on Saturday, April 17.
Johnson and Long were among 13 students from the Pittsburgh region to qualify for the national level exam based on their scores on the Local Chemistry Olympiad Exam, administered on March 27. They are the first Mars Area students to advance to the USNCO Exam.
Those students, who score in the Top 20 on the USNCO Exam, will be invited to a two-week Study Camp. Based on their performance, four students will then be selected to represent the U.S. at the International Chemistry Olympiad.
