Seven Mars Area High School seniors signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level:
Alexander Heavner signed a letter of intent to join the Pioneers Men’s Baseball Team at Marietta College (Ohio), where he plans to major in business management.
Heavner is a four-year member of the Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team, which took fourth place in the 2019 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championships. In 2018, the Fightin’ Planets took second place in the WPIAL playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinals of the PIAA Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship.
At Mars Area High School, Heavner was also a member of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team for one year.
Alek Johnson signed a letter of intent to join the Yellowjackets Women’s Basketball Team at Baldwin-Wallace University (Berea, Ohio), where she plans to major in engineering.
Johnson is a four-year member of the Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team, which, in her freshman year, earned the 2017-2018 PIAA Class 5A Title after taking fourth place in the WPIAL Class 5A Girls Varsity Basketball Championships. In 2018-2019, the Lady Planets advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals and to the first round of the WPIAL playoffs in both 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.
At Mars Area High School, Johnson is a member of Interact Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, REACH, Spanish National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and the Water Protection Program. In the community, she has volunteered at St. John Specialty Care Center, as a counselor for Mars Girls Youth Basketball Association; an, she assembled meals to be distributed those in need through Rise for Hunger.
Carly Kern signed a letter of intent to join the Yellowjackets Women’s Lacrosse Team at Baldwin-Wallace University (Berea, Ohio), where she plans to major in chemistry.
Kern is a four-year member and a 2021 senior co-captain of the Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which took fourth place in 2018 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships and advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals in 2019. In 2020, she was selected for the 2019 Pittsburgh National Women’s Lacrosse Team.
At Mars Area High School, Kern is a member of AFS/MISA, National Honor Society, the Water Protection Program, and she is a four-year member of the Girls Varsity Basketball Team that earned the 2017-2018 PIAA Class 5A Title. In the community, she performs with Jeter Backyard Theater
Courtney Lisman signed a letter of intent to join the Wolverines Women’s Soccer Team at Grove City College, where she plans to major in psychology.
Lisman is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which won both the PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A Girls Soccer Championship titles in 2019 and 2020. She was named to the 2020 All-WPIAL and All-Section (4-3A) teams as well as the 2020 Butler Eagle Honor Roll; was selected as a 2020 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Player of the Week (Nov. 16-20); and, she received All-Section (1-3A) honors in 2019.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Class Council, Concert Band, French Club, French National Honor Society, Student Council, Varsity Club, and she was a member of the Girls Varsity Basketball Team for one year. In the community, she volunteers at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; for the Glade Run Church Upward Basketball program; and for the “A Night to Remember” program.
Alaina Metal signed a letter of intent to join the Fighting Muskies Women’s Lacrosse Team at Muskingham University (New Concord, Ohio), where she plans to major in nursing.
Metal is a four-year member and a 2021 senior co-captain of the Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which took fourth place in 2018 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships and advanced to the WPIAL quarterfinals in 2019.
At Mars Area High School, Metal is a member of AFS/MISA, Key Club and REACH as well as a four-year member of the Girls Varsity Golf Team. In the community, she volunteers for Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Association and works at St. Barnabas Health System.
Mitchell Schultz signed a letter of intent to join the Spartans Men’s Baseball Team at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), where he plans to major in aerospace engineering.
Schultz is a four-year member of the Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team, which took fourth place in the 2019 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championships. At Mars Area High School, Schultz is a member of AP Computer Science Club and was a member of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team for one year. In the community, he works at Quality Gardens.
Caroline Wroblewski signed a letter of intent to join the Golden Flashes Women’s Soccer Team at Kent State University, where she plans to major in English and pre-law.
Wroblewski is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which won both the PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A Girls Soccer Championship titles in 2019 and 2020. In 2020, she was named to the 2020 All-State, All-WPIAL and All-Section (4-3A) teams; the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette All-Area Team; and to the Butler Eagle Honor Roll. She was also selected for the 2018 All-WPIAL Team and the All-Section (1-3A) Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
At Mars Area High School, Wroblewski is a member of Class Council, Concert Band, German Club, German National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Varsity Club. In the community, she volunteers with Mars Area Soccer Club and works at churn.
