TRACK & FIELD NEWS (posted 05.20.21)

Several members of Mars Area High School’s Boys & Girls Varsity Track & Field Team competed in the 2021 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Track & Field Championship, held May 19 at Slippery Rock University.

On the boys team, junior Evan Thompson earned fifth place with a distance of 20 feet, 9.75 inches in Long Jump and 12th place (40 feet, 4.25 inches) in the Triple Jump. Senior Thomas Spreng took 12th place (11 feet, 9 inches) in the Pole Vault; and, junior Jacob Ottenweller received 18th place (41 feet, 4.25 inches) in Shot Put. 

On the girls team, junior Kirsten Maybach took ninth place (34 feet, 7.25 inches) in Triple Jump. Junior Lauren Campion received 13th place with a time of 49.52 in the 300-Meter Hurdles and 21st place (17.72) in the preliminary round of the 100-Meter Hurdles.

The relay team of juniors Eliza Matusek and Kalin Wilson and freshmen Brooke Bowes and Riley Mayer earned eighth place (10:26.72) in the 3,200-Meter Relay.
