Mars Area High School graduate Ellie Coffield (Class of 2021) was named the 2020-2021 Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
This is the second consecutive year that Coffield was selected for the honor. The Gatorade Player of the Year program recognizes the nation’s most elite high school athletes for not only athletic excellence, but also for high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.
A four-year member on the Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, Coffield (midfielder) helped to lead the Lady Planets to win the both the 2020 PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A Championship titles as well as the Section 4-3A title. She finished the 2020 season with 26 goals and 36 assists, and with a career total of 95 goals and 104 assists.
Coffield was selected for the 2020 All-State, All-WPIAL and All-Section (4-3A) teams and was named the 2020 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association (PSCA) Girls Soccer Player of the Year, Butler Eagle, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Trib HSSN (High School Sports Network) Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
She was selected to compete as a member of the 2020 East All-American Team in the 10th annual High School All-American Game, held May 29 in St. Louis, Mo.; and, she is also a finalist in the 2020-2021 USA Today High School Sports Awards, to be announced at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5.
In 2019-2020, in addition to being named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Girls Soccer Player of the Year, she was selected as the Cover Three Athletics WPIAL Female Athlete of the Year, and received the 2019 ‘Moe’ Rosensteel Most Outstanding Player Award.
Coffield has signed a letter of intent to join the Panthers Women’s Soccer Team at the University of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Pa.), where she plans to major in nutrition science.
