Graduate Selected for 2021 Positive Athlete Award

Mars Area High School graduate Alaina Metal (Class of 2021) was selected to receive the 2020-2021 Western Pennsylvania Positive Athlete Award for Girls Lacrosse.

Metal Alaina Metalwas selected from among thousands student-athlete nominees from 150 Pennsylvania schools.The honor is presented to those student-athletes who have overcome difficult circumstances; have given back to their schools and communities; and who embody an optimistic attitude.

Metal was a four-year member and a 2021 senior co-captain of the Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2021 PIAA Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships after winning the 2021 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championship Title. The Lady Planets ended the regular season undefeated with an overall record of 16-0 and 8-0 in section play and earned the 2021 Section 2-2A title.

At Mars Area High School, Metal was also a member of AFS/MISA, Key Club and REACH and a four-year member of the Girls Varsity Golf Team. In the community, she volunteers for Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Association and works at St. Barnabas Health System.

Metal has signed a letter of intent to join the Fighting Muskies Women’s Lacrosse Team at Muskingham University (New Concord, Ohio), where she plans to major in nursing.
