Mars Area High School senior Kyle Kochanski competed in the 2024 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Nov. 2 at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey).

Kochanski, a member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Cross Country Team, took 152nd place with a time of 17:43.

2024 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships

Kyle KochanskiSeveral members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2024 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 24 at White Oak Park.  

The boys team took 20th place overall with a score of 552 and an average time of 17:58.5. In individual competition, senior Kyle Kochanski took 15th place with a time of 16:17.2 and qualified for the 2024 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Varsity Cross Country Championships, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey)

Other runners included junior Colton Rearick, who placed 64th place (17:15.7); junior Jacob Pietrusinski, 138th place (18:22.5); junior Hudson Shipler, 169th place (18:55.5); freshman Jack Melaro, 171st place (19:01.9); senior Austin Kuremsky, 173rd place (19:11.7); and senior Brandon Lego, 178th place (19:34.8).

The girls team did not place in the competition. Individually, junior Madeline James received 123rd place with a time of 22:28.3; sophomore Emma Ladesic, 140th place (22:55.9); and senior Angelica Lewis, 148th place (23:23.7).

TSTCA Varsity Cross Country Class 3A Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2024 TSTCA Varsity Cross Country Class 3A Championships, held Oct. 17 at White Oak Park.

On the boys team, senior Kyle Kochanski took 15th place with a time of 16:30.28; junior Colton Rearick, 63rd place (17:30.59); junior Jacob Pietrusinski, 66th place (17:36.63); freshman Daxson Hammerbeck, 155th place (18:26.81), senior Austin Kuremsky, 168th place (18:55.31); junior Hudson Shipler, 189th place (19:08.10); senior Brandon Lego, 203rd place (19:29.41); freshman Jack Melaro, 206th place (19:30.34); freshman Beckett Szczesniak, 239th place (20:11.58); junior Levi Jackson, 266th (21:03.34); and freshman Ryan Kuremsky, 270th place (21:40.77).

On the girls team, junior Madeline James received 114th place with a time of 22:35.88; sophomore Emma Ladesic, 127th place (22:56.82); senior Angelica Lewis, 134th place (23:07.77); and senior Fallon Bright, 165th place (23:55.83).

2024 MAC Varsity Cross Country Championships

Mars Area High School's Varsity and JV Cross Country TeamsSeveral members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2024 MAC Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 9 at Brush Creek Park.

On the boys team, senior Kyle Kochanski took seventh place with a time of 17:21.6; junior Colton Rearick, 19th place (18:10.4); junior Jacob Pietrusinski, 36th place (18:48.5); freshman Daxson Hammerbeck, 50th place (19:29.3); freshman Jack Melaro, 52nd place (19:39.4); junior Hudson Shipler, 54th place (19:41.8); senior Austin Kuremsky, 58th place (19:54.9); and sophomore Aiden Gloystein, 91st place (21:53.4);

On the girls team sophomore Emma Ladesic received 32nd place (23.50.04); senior Anjelica Lewis, 43rd place (24:07.80); senior Fallon Bright, 53rd place (24:50.35); and junior Madeline James, 56th place (25:03.40).

Cross Country Teams Return WPIAL Runners

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams are on course for a return to post-season competition.

In 2023, the boys team ended the regular season with and overall record of 1-8 and 1-6 in Section 3-3A. 

Returning runners include seniors Kyle Kochanski and Austin Kuremsky and juniors Kayden Koscho, Jacob Pietrusinski, Colton Rearick, alll of whom competed in the 2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships.

Rounding out the team are seniors Roman Brunsell, Kristian Johansson, Aiden Kuremsky, Phillip Ladesic and Brandon Lego; juniors Jack DeChancie, Hudson Shipler, Nolan Staudacher, Liam Wolf and Marin Voyeau; sophomore Jackson Kotula; and, freshmen Daxson Hammerbeck, Grady Knauf, Ryan Kuremsky, Beckett Szczesniak and Jack Melaro.

The Lady Planets ended the 2023 regular season with and overall record of 1-8 and 1-6 in Section  3-3A. 

The girls team returns sophomore Hailey Long, who placed 38th in the 2023 PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Cross Country Championship and 13th in the WPIAL Championships. Long also earned a new Mars Area Cross Country record with a time of 19:06.56 at the 2023 TSTCA Varsity Cross Country Class 3A Championships.

Also returning is sophomore Emma Ladesic, who competed in the WPIAL Championships, seniors Fallon Bright, Lexi Hallock and Anjelica Lewis; juniors Ava Anderson and Madeline James; and sophomore Alexandria James. Rounding out the team are senior Isabella Gillette and freshman Katherine Kasper.

PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Cross Country Championship

Hailey LongMars Area High School freshman Hailey Long competed in the PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Nov. 4, in Hershey, Pa.

Long, a member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Cross Country Team, placed 38th out of 237 runners with a finishing time of 19:51. She advanced to the state competition after taking 13th in the 2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships on Oct. 26.

2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championship

Hailey Long\Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2023 WPIAL Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 26 at White Oak Park (McKeesport, Pa.).

The girls team took 17th place overall with the Top 5 finishing times equaling 1:47:53.1. Freshman Hailey Long earned 13th place with a time of 19:06.8 and will advance to the PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Cross Country Championships, to be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey, Pa.).

Senior Reese Hanna received 57th place with a time of 20:56.0; senior Riley Mayer, 93rd place (21:52.2); senior Brooke Beck, 129th place (22:41.5); freshman Emma Ladesic, 146th place (23:16.8); and junior Susanna Tomkovicz, 165th place (24:17.5).

The boys team place 21st overall with the Top 5 finishing times equaling 1:33.07.5. Junior Kyle Kochanski took 78th place with a time of 17:59.7; sophomore Jacob Pietrusinski, 100th place (18:21.3); senior Brady Spoores, 117th place (18:45.8); freshman Raphael Bencun, 118th place (18:49.7); sophomore Colton Rearick, 130th place (19:11.2); sophomore Kayden Koscho, 132nd place (19:15.2); junior Austin Kuremsky, 155th place (20:40.6).

2023 TSTCA Class 3A Varsity Cross Country Championships

Mars Area High School freshman Hailey Long placed 13th and set a new Mars Area Cross Country record with a time of 19:06.56 at the 2023 TSTCA Varsity Cross County Class 3A Championships.Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2023 TSTCA Varsity Cross Country Class 3A Championships, held Oct. 19 at White Oak Park. 

The girls team received 17th place overall with an average time of 21:37.  

Freshman Hailey Long earned 13th place, setting a new Mars Area Cross Country Record with a time of 19:06.56. The previous record (19:29) was set by Brittany Zaborowski (Class of 2006) in 2005.

2023 MAC Varsity Cross Country Championship

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2023 MAC Varsity Cross Country Championship, held Oct. 11 at Settler’s Cabin Park.

The girls team took fourth place overall with an average time of 22:46. Freshman Hailey Long earned 10th place with a time of 21:16; senior Reese Hanna, 20th place (22:00); senior Riley Mayer, 23rd place (22:45); senior Brooke Beck, 32nd place (23:22); sophomore Madeline James, 40th place (24:27); junior Brooke Sheldon, 42nd place (24:31); junior Lexi Hallock, 49th place (25:24); and, freshman Emma Ladesic, 52nd place (25:46).

The boys team received eighth place overall with an average time of 19:42. 2022 WPIAL Cross Country Championship

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2022 WPIAL Cross Country Championship Meet, held Oct. 28 at California University of Pennsylvania.

The boys team took 19th place overall with 523 points in Class 2A competition. Junior Brady Spoores took 66th place with a time of 18:31.5; sophomore Kyle Kochanski, 74th place (18:38.4); freshman Jacob Pietrusinski, 105th place (19:11.4); sophomore Austin Kuremsky, 136th place (20:04.3); sophomore Philip Ladesic, 143rd place (20:35.6); freshman Colton Rearick, 145th place (20:48.1); freshman Kayden Koscho, 146th place (20:51.4).

The girls team took 19th place overall with 523 points in Class 3A competition. All-Butler County Cross Country Team

2021 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Cross Country ChampionshipSeveral members of Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams were named to the All-Butler County Cross Country Team.

On the boys team, senior Greg Chernosky was selected of the First Team; senior Jack Olshensky for the Second Team; and senior John Dunn received an honorable mention.

On the girls team, Grace Wu was name to the First Team; sophomore Riley Mayer to the Second Team; and senior Kalin Wilson, senior Eliza Matusek, and sophomore Isabella Morales received honorable mentions

Greg Chernosky2021 PIAA Cross Country Championship

Mars Area High School senior Greg Chernosky took 89th place at the 2021 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Cross Country Championship, held Nov. 6 at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey).

Chernosky finished the race with an overall time of 17:58.8. He qualified for the state competition after placing 19th (18:11.21) at the 2021 WPIAL Class 2A Cross Country Championship on Oct. 28.

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2021 WPIAL Cross Country Championship Meet, held Oct. 28 at California University of Pennsylvania.

The boys team took 12th place overall with 318 points and an average time of 19:41 in Class 2A competition. Senior Greg Chernosky earned 19th place (18:11.21), qualifying for the 2021 PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Cross Country Championship, to be held Saturday, Nov. 6, at Parkview Cross Country Course (Hershey); senior Jack Olshenske, took 45th place (19:12.30); senior John Dunn, 64th place (19:46.70); senior Andrew Bowie, 92nd place (20:28.20); freshman Kyle Kochanski, 102nd place (20:48.50); freshman Austin Kuremsky, 106th place (20:58.00); and senior Anuj Kaul, 118th place (21:17.30).

The girls team took 19th place overall with 522 points and an average time of 23:30 in Class 3A competition. The boys team took 10th place overall with 250 points and an average time of 19:21. 2021 MAC Cross Country Invitational

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2021 MAC Cross Country Invitational, held Oct. 13 at Settlers Cabin Park.

The girls team earned fourth place overall with 120 points and an average time of 22:54. Senior Grace Wu took ninth place (21:05); sophomore Riley Mayer, 22nd place (22:44); senior Kalin Wilson, 27th place (23:14); senior Eliza Matusek, 34th place (24:43); sophomore Bella Morales, 36th place (23:47); freshman Brooke Sheldon, 45th place (24:24); and senior Sidney Jeager, 70th place (26:37).

The boys team took fifth place overall with 140 points and an average time of 19:16.
