High School Production Receives Mancini Award for Best Musical and More

Mars Area High School’s spring production of The Drowsy Chaperone was named Best Musical (Budget Level 3) at the 2022 Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards, held May 22 at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center

Katherin BallThe musical also earned Mancini Awards for Best Choreography Execution, Best Crew/Technical Execution, Best Costume Design (Budget Level 3), Best Lighting Design (Budget Level 3), and Best Scenic Design (Budget Level 3). And, senior Katherine Ball, who portrayed Mrs. Tottendale in the musical, received the award for Best Supporting Actress.

As a Best Musical nominee, the entire cast of The Drowsy Chaperone performed its production number, “Toledo Surprise.” In addition, 2022 Mancini Award nominees — senior John Kiewall and sophomore Nicholas Ferrari (Best Actor), seniors Addison Keys, Meghan McKenzie and Olivia Rihs (Best Actress), junior Kole Yingling (Best Supporting Actor), and senior Katherine Ball (Best Supporting Actress) participated in the award ceremony’s Opening Number.

Senior cast members Tori Speranza and Alexandra Organ performed in the awards ceremony’s Finale Number. Sophomore Isabela Montes was selected to receive a Pittsburgh CLO Academy summer scholarship.
