Several members of Mars Area High School Varsity Baseball Team were named among the top players in the region.

Senior Charlie Bickel (designated hitter) and senior Jake Johnson (infield) were named to the All-Section 3-5A First Team; junior Luke Goodworth (infield) to the second team; and, junior Finn Seideneck (outfield), senior Jacob Maple (outfield), and junior Roman Brunsell (pitcher) received Honorable Mentions.

Varsity Baseball Team Ends Season in WPIAL Playoffs

Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team ended the regular season with an overall record of 8-6 and 5-5 in Section 3-5A.

Players on this year’s team included senior Jackson Fox, who has signed a letter of intent to join the Presidents Men’s Baseball Team at Washington & Jefferson College (Washington, Pa.).

Rounding out the team are seniors Charles Bickel, Jake Johnson, Shane Klinefelter and Jacob Maple; juniors Roman Brunsell, Daniel CostanzaLuke Goodworth, Vincent Gottschalk, Jonathan Hein, Austin Kuremsky, Aiden Kuremsky, Brandon Lego, Hayden Reisinger, Zachary Rozman and Finn Seideneck; and, sophomores Shane Creighan, Colin Krafjack, Tyler Renneneck, Joseph Santa and Grady Speigle.

2022-2023

Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team advanced to the first round of the 2023 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship on May 17; but was defeated 6-4 by the Fox Chapel Foxes.

The Fightin’ Planets ended the regular season with an overall record of 14-5 and 5-5 in Section 3-5A.

Players on this year’s team included Thomas McLaren and Zachary Orosz, who signed letters of intent to play baseball at Washington & Jefferson College and the University of Mount Union, respectively. Also of note, junior Jackson Fox was selected for the Section 3 First Team; senior Benjamin Astbury to the Second Team; and juniors Jake Johnson and Charlie Bickel and sophomore Luke Goodworth received Honorable Mentions.

Rounding out the team were seniors Kyle Haddad, Richard Lusk, Samuel Schultz, Nolan Scott, Owen Smith, and Chase Winstead; juniors Jackson Fox, Shane Klinefelter and Jacob Maple; and, sophomores Roman Brunsell, Austin Kuremsky and Finn Seideneck

2021-2022

Baseball Players, Coach Receive Honors

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team were named among the top players in the region.

Senior Nathan Leshinsky (catcher), senior Trey Wagner (outfield), junior Thomas Mclaren (pitcher) and sophomore Jake Johnson (infield) were selected for the All-Section 2-5A First Team; and, senior Johnny Fratto (infield) and sophomore Shane Klinefelter (infield) for the Second Team. Senior Matt Mroz (pitcher) and junior Zack Orosz (outfield) received Honorable Mentions.

Also of note, senior Nathan Leshinsky (catcher) was named the team's MVP.

In addition, Jason Thompson, head coach, was named 2020-2021 Coach of the Year. The Fightin’ Planets advanced to the first round of the 2022 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship, after ending the regular season with an overall record of 14-5 and 11-1 in section, earning the Section 2-5A title.

2022 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship

Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team advanced to the first round of the 2022 WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Baseball Championship on May 17, but was defeated 8-6 by the Chartiers Valley Colts.

The Fightin’ Planets ended the regular season with an overall record of 14-5 and 11-1 in section, earning the Section 2-5A title.

Players on this year’s team include senior Matthew Mroz, who has signed a letter of intent to join the Bearcats Men’s Baseball Team at St. Vincent College; and, senior Trey Wagner, who has signed a letter of intent to join the Wolverines Men’s Baseball Team at Grove City College.

Rounding out the team are seniors Jacob Apffel, John Fratto, Ty Garver, Lucas Kuremsky and Nathan Leshinsky; juniors Benjamin Astbury, Kyler Haddad, Carter King, Richard Lusk, Thomas Mclaren, Zachary Orosz, Samuel Schultz, Nolan Scott, Owen Smith and Chase Winstead; sophomores Charlie Bickel, Jackson Fox, Jake Johnson, Shane Klinefelter and Jacob Maple; and, freshman Finn Seideneck.
