Members of Pine-Richland/Mars Area U.S. Air Force JROTC installed an annual “9/11: Never Forget Project” flag memorial along Route 228 at Mars Area High School.

The flag memorial, which includes 2,977 American flags (one for each person who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks), will remain on display through Friday, Sept. 11.

The memorial, part of the Young America’s Foundation “9/11: Never Forget Project,” was initiated in 2011 by Mars Area graduate Bryan Thomas (Class of 2012) and was installed by student and staff volunteers, until the project was taken over by the JROTC in 2019.
