Several Mars Area High School student athletes signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level:
Lauren Atwell signed a letter of intent to join the Knights Women’s Volleyball Team at Gannon University (Erie), where she plans to major in physical therapy.
Atwell, a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team, was named to the 2021 Section 5-3A All-Star Third Team. She is also a four-year member of the school’s Girls Varsity Basketball Team.
At Mars Area High School, Atwell is also a member of Art Club. In the community, she volunteers for both basketball and volleyball youth camps.
Ava Balazentis signed a letter of intent to join The Rock Women’s Soccer Team at Slippery Rock University, where she plans to major in business.
Balazentis is a three-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). In the community, she plays for Beadling Soccer and volunteers with BG Soccer and Mars Area Soccer Club.
Piper Coffield signed a letter of intent to join the Hoosiers Women’s Soccer Team at Indiana University (Bloomington, Ind.), where she plans to major in finance.
Coffield is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships.
She was named to the 2022 All-WPIAL and All-Section (1-3A) teams. And, she was selected to participate in the 2022 High School All-American Game to be held Saturday, Dec. 10.
At Mars Area High School, Coffield is a member of Enrichment Club, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Student Council. In the community, she serves as a volunteer coach for BG Soccer and QuickSkills Soccer and participates in the youth ministry at North Way Christian Community Church.
Reese Dunaway signed a letter of intent to join the Red Storm Women’s Soccer Team at St. John’s University (Queens, N.Y.), where she has yet to declare a major.
Dunaway is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships and Dunaway was named to the 2022 All-WPIAL and All-Section (1-3A) teams.
At Mars Area High School, Dunaway is also a two-year member of the Girls Varsity Track & Field Team. In the community, she plays for Beadling Soccer Club and volunteers with Mars Area Soccer Club and other soccer programs.
Eden Gerlach signed a letter of intent to join the Fighting Scots Women’s Soccer Team at PennWest Edinboro University, where she has yet to declare a major.
Gerlach is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships, and she was named to the 2022 All-WPIAL and All-Section (1-3A) teams.
At Mars Area High School, Gerlach is a member of Interact Club and Spanish Club. In the community, she volunteers with BG Soccer.
Emma Grell signed a letter of intent to join the Knights Women’s Lacrosse Team at Gannon University (Erie), where she plans to major in elementary education with a minor in special education.
Grell is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which took second place in the 2022 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships.
In the community, she volunteers with Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Association and Mars Cheer.
Gwen Howell signed a letter of intent to join the Spiders Women’s Soccer Team at the University of Richmond (Va.), where she has yet to declare a major.
Howell is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships.
She was named to the 2022 All-WPIAL and All-Section (1-3A) teams. And, she was selected to participate in the 2022 High School All-American Game to be held Saturday, Dec. 10.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Class Council, German National Honor Society, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society and Student Council.
In the community, Howell plays soccer with Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy teams and for the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL). She also volunteers with Mars Area Soccer Club, Foster Love Project, and for the “A Night to Remember” program at Discovery Church (Mars).
Annalyn Isaacs signed a letter of intent to join the Mountie Women’s Basketball and Softball Teams at Mount Aloysius College (Cresson, Pa.), where she plans to major in business administration and sports management.
Isaacs, who transferred to Mars Area High School for the 2022-2023 School Year, is expected to be a member of the school’s girls varsity basketball and softball teams. She previously played both sports at North Allegheny Senior High School.
In the community, she serves a basketball coach at Pure Hoops Academy
Ava Lewis signed a letter of intent to join the Griffins Women’s Soccer Team at the College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, Va.), where she plans to major in physical therapy.
Lewis is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships, and she was named to the 2022 All-WPIAL and All-Section (1-3A) teams.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Class Council, National Honor Society and Varsity Club. In the community, she volunteers with BG Soccer, Mars Area Soccer Club and Goodwill Industries.
Charlotte Stamper signed a letter of intent to join the Dukes Women’s Lacrosse Team at Duquesne University, where she plans to major in liberal arts.
Stamper is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which took second place in the 2022 WPIAL Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships. She also plays for True Lacrosse.
In the community, she serves as a coach for Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Association.
Olivia Wilson signed a letter of intent to join the Pioneers Women’s Soccer Team at the Marietta College (Ohio), where she plans to major in early education and special education.
Wilson is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Class Council, Creative Writing Club, FOR Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, Student Council, and the Water Protection Program. In the community, she volunteers with BG Soccer.
Madeline Wolf signed a letter of intent to join the Brewers Women’s Soccer Team at the Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), where she has yet to declare a major.
Wolf is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which earned its third consecutive PIAA and WPIAL Class 3A title during the 2021 season. This season, the team placed second in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championships, and she was named to the 2022 All-Section (1-3A) teams.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member Bible Club, Chamber Choir, Future Engineers Society, Interact Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Varsity Club and the Water Protection Program. In the community, she plays for Arsenal F.C. Soccer Club and volunteers with Mars Area Soccer Club and QuickSkills Soccer.
