Student Works Selected for Scholastic Art Awards

Several Mars Area High School students were selected to receive 2023 Pittsburgh Arts Region Scholastic Art Awards.

Senior Katie Ames received a Gold Key for her work, “Chickens & Pillars;” Silver Keys for “A Memory of Books,” “Chicken Witch” and “Free;” and an Honorable Mention for “Floating Chickens.” Sophomore Alyssa Hipsky received a Gold Key for her work, “Overdone;” and Silver Keys for “Liquid Gold,” “To the Core,” and “Displayed.”

Senior Hazel Whitcroft received a Gold Key for her work, “Motionless;” a Silver Key for “My Friend, Madelyn;” and an Honorable Mention for “Brother in a Box.” Senior Blythe McClure received a Gold Key for her work, “Rhyme and Reason.”

Junior Ryan Nesbitt received a Silver Key for “Inferno;” and Honorable Mentions for “Aphrodite and Ares,” “Desolation” and “Swines in Slumber.” Sophomore Maggie Lyker received a Silver Key for her work, “My Shoes;” and an Honorable Mention for “Me.”

Senior Kaylen Lindenberg received a Silver Key for her work, “Colors of the Soul.” Senior Effie Frank received an Honorable Mention for her portfolio, “The Smothered Mate.”

Junior Vivian Frank received Honorable Mentions for her works, “Well-Armed” and “Not That Cold.” Additional Honorable Mentions were awarded to senior Dakota Gamble for, “Where Can I Go?;” senior Hayley Goerl for “Coral Reef;” senior Megan McSwain for “don’t call the cops;” and freshman Milana Starostina for “Comfort in Confusion.”

The students’ works will be featured as part of the annual Pittsburgh Arts Region Scholastic Art Exhibit, to be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Carnegie Mellon University College of Fine Arts & Kresge Theater. Mars Area High School’s award winners will be honored during an awards ceremony 2:30 p.m.
