Two Mars Area School District students competed as members of Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Hockey teams at the Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championships, held March 30-April 3 in Dallas, Texas.
Mars Area Middle School seventh-grader Brooklyn Ligda (forward) joined the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 14U Team, which took third place in the 14U Tier 1 Division, with a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Little Ceasars in the semifinal. The team defeated the Chicago Mission 4-2 in the quarterfinal round.
Mars Area High School junior Zoey Krock (forward) competed as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 16U Team, which advanced to the quarterfinal round of the competition, but was defeated 3-1 by Mid-Fairfield Stars.
Pittsburgh Penguins Elite is a Tier 1 Class 3A Team in the region. Teams play against other Tier 1 teams from across the country from September through March.
