Ellie Howell, a sophomore at Wake Forest University and Mars Area High School graduate (Class of 2021), performed a duet with Kristen Chenoweth, Tony Award-winning actress and singer, at the university’s student-led Face-to-Face Speaker Forum on April 13.
At the conclusion of the event, Chenoweth surprised Howell, a history major with a theater minor, with an invitation to sing with her on stage. The pair received a standing ovation for their performance of “For Good” from the Broadway musical, Wicked.
At Mars Area High School, Howell was nominated for a 2021 Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Donna Sheridan in school’s production of Mamma Mia! Howell also played Cinderella in the school’s 2021 spring play, Game of Tiaras, as well as Mrs. Potts in the 2019 production of Beauty and the Beast.
