Two Mars Area High School have committed to continuing their sports careers at the college level.
Senior Rebecca Roberts has signed a letter of intent to join the Red Devils Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams at Dickinson College (Carlisle, Pa.), where she plans to major in English.
Roberts is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Varsity Cross Country and a three-year member of the school’s Track & Field Team. She competed in the 2022 WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country Championships.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of the Indoor Track Club, Film Club, Chamber Ensemble, Show Choir, and has participated in the school’s fall play and spring musicals.
In the community, she serves as an assistant director at Comtra Theatre and has volunteered at Alina’s Light and Mars Area Public Library.
Mars Area High School senior Tasso Sfanos has signed a letter of intent to join the Sand Sharks Men’s Basketball Team at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, where he plans to major in business.
Sfanos is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team. This season, he helped lead the Fightin’ Planets to the second round of the 2022-2023 PIAA Class 5A Boys Varsity Basketball Championship, after the team took sixth place in the 2022-2023 WPIAL Championships.
He was named to the 2023 PIAA Class 5A All-State Boys Basketball Second Team and to the WPIAL Class 5A All-Section (4) First Team. He was also named a 2022-2023 Butler Eagle Boys Basketball Co-Player of the Year.
In the community, he has volunteered at youth basketball camps.
