Mars Area High School graduates John Sutton and Madeline Wolf were named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2023, respectively.
John Sutton is a recipient of the 2023 Coherent/II-VI Undergraduate Scholarship, LEFCON Technology Scholarship; and Rich-Mar Rotary Educational Scholarship.
He and his sister, Jenna Sutton (Class of 2020), were presented with a 2019 District 25 VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) Auxiliary 7505 Patriotic Youth Award and, in 2020 were honored by the VFW Auxiliary for their annual “Cookies for a Cause” fundraiser, which supports of local veterans.
At Mars Area High School, Sutton served as a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and Science National Honor Society.
Sutton plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as an Engineering major.
Madeline Wolf is a 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program Commended Student. She is a recipient of the 2023 Challenge Program Academic Excellence Scholarship, Rich-Mar Rotary Educational Scholarship, and U.S. Marine Corps — Scholastic Excellence Award,
At Mars Area High School, Wolf served as a member of member of Bible Club, Chamber Choir, Future Engineers Society, Interact Club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Varsity Club and the Water Protection Program. She was also a member of the school’s Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which advanced to the semifinals of the 2022 PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championship, after taking second place in the 2023 WPIAL Championships.
She was named to the 2022 All-Section (1-3A) Girls Varsity Soccer Team. In the community, she plays for Arsenal F.C. Soccer Club and volunteers with Mars Area Soccer Club and QuickSkills Soccer.
Wolf has signed a letter of intent to join the Brewers Women’s Soccer Team at the Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), where she has yet to declare a major.
