Single High School Entrance to Open Along Route 228

Throughout this summer, the entrance gates along Route 228 at Mars Area High School have remained closed to eliminate cut-through traffic between Route 228 and Three Degree Road, which significantly increased with the onset of road construction at the intersection of the roadways.

Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 16, the eastern-most gate along Route 228 will be opened to enable vehicles to enter the campus directly from Route 228. The entrance gate along Three Degree Road will remain open as well.

During the school year, all entrance gates along Route 228 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. while school is in session. During these times, access to the campus will remain available via Three Degree Road only. The gates will remain open during non-school hours; however, anyone traveling through the high school parking areas is asked to use caution as students and others participating in after-school activities and events may be present.

In addition, when exiting the campus, please note that vehicles are prohibited from making a left turn onto Route 228 at the high school’s western-most entrance along Route 228. A “No Left Turn” sign is posted. All vehicles that will be traveling west on Route 228 are asked to exit at Three Degree Road, turn left and left again at the signaled intersection on Route 228. Vehicles are highly discouraged from making any left turns directly onto Route 228, as it may present a safety hazard.
