Seniors to Continue Sports Careers in College

Several Mars Area High School student athletes signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level: 

Mya CoteMya Cote signed a letter of intent to join the Hawks Women’s Lacrosse Team at St. Joseph’s University (Philadelphia), where she plans to major in health science.

Cote is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team, which, last season, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 PIAA Class 2A Girls Varsity Lacrosse Championships, after winning the WPIAL Class 2A Championship and Section 2-2A titles. She was named to the 2023 All-WPIAL Class 2A and Section 2-2A teams.

At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Class Council and German National Honor Society. In the community, she volunteers as a coach with Mars Girls Youth Lacrosse Association.

Cole DermittCole Dermitt signed a letter of intent to join the Cougars Men’s Lacrosse Team at Chatham University, where he plans to major in business management with a minor in sports management.

Dermitt is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, which, in 2023, took second place in the PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championships; first place in the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship; and earned the Section 2-2A title.

At Mars Area High School, he is a member of German Club. In the community, he volunteers with Mars Youth Lacrosse Association.

Enzo GriecoEnzo Grieco signed a letter of intent to join the Nittany Lions Men’s Lacrosse Team at Pennsylvania State University, where he plans to major in business finance.

Grieco is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, which, in 2023, took second place in the PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championships; first place in the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship; and earned the Section 2-2A title. He was named the 2023 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Boys Varsity Lacrosse Player of the Year as well as a 2023 USA Lacrosse All-American; and, he was selected for All-WPIAL Class 2A and All-Section 2-2A honors.

At Mars Area High School, he is a member of Interact Club, Key Club and Varsity Club and was a member of the Varsity Wrestling Team during his freshman year. In the community, he volunteers as a coach with Mars Youth Lacrosse Association.

Mayson KennedyMayson Kennedy signed a letter of intent to join the Hilltoppers Women’s Softball Team at West Liberty University (West Virginia), where she plans to major in criminal justice.

Kennedy is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Varsity Softball Team, which ended the 2023 regular season with an overall record of 7-9 and 4-6 in Section 3-5A play.

At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Key Club, Film Club and Science National Honor Society. She also played basketball through eighth grade.

In the community, she is an active member of the Junior Ladies of Charity of Holy Sepulcher Parish as well as Butler County 4-H, through which she has earned several local and state awards.

Zoey KrockZoey Krock signed a letter of intent to join the Bulldogs Women’s Hockey Team at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where she plans to major in rehabilitation and health science.

Krock, who has played with Pittsburgh Penguins Elite for the past 10 seasons, is a forward on the 19U Girls Team, competed in the 2023 Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championship.

At Mars Area High School, she is a member of German Club, German National Honor Society, Interact Club, Key Club, Varsity Club and is a four-year members of the school’s Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team. In the community, she offers skate lessons and coaches at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. 

Jack McKenzieJack McKenzie signed a letter of intent to join the Chesapeake Bay Retriever Men’s Lacrosse Team at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he has yet to declare a major.

McKenzie is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, which, in 2023, took second place in the PIAA Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championships; first place in the WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship; and earned the Section 2-2A title. He was named a  2023 USA Lacrosse All-American and was selected for All-WPIAL Class 2A and All-Section 2-2A honors.

At Mars Area High School, he is a member of German Club and German National Honor Society. In the community, he volunteers as a coach with Mars Youth Lacrosse Association.

Rosie PellegrinoRosie Pellegrino signed a letter of intent to join the Eagles Women’s Soccer Team at Ashland University (Ohio), where she plans to major in accounting.

Pellegrino is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Varsity Soccer  Team, which, in 2022, advanced to the semifinals of the PIAA Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championship, after taking second place in the WPIAL Class 3A Girls Varsity Soccer Championship and earning the Section 1-3A title. This season, the Lady Planets earned the section title, took third place in the WPIAL playoffs, and is competing in the PIAA championships.

At Mars Area High School, she is a member of Interact Club, Student Council and Varsity Club. In the community, she volunteers with BG Soccer Camp.

Taylor SchmittTaylor Schmitt signed a letter of intent to join the Griffins Women’s Softball Team at Seton Hill University, where she plans to major in health science.

Schmitt is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Varsity Softball Team, which ended the 2023 regular season with an overall record of 7-9 and 4-6 in Section 3-5A play. She was named to the 2023 Section 3 First Team.

At Mars Area High School, she is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Water Protection Program, and is a four-year member of the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team. In the community, she plays softball with Team Pennsylvania Fastpitch.
