Mars Area High School sophomore Paige Lauten was selected for the 2024 UPMC Sports Medicine Female Comeback Player of the Year Award.
The $1,000 college scholarship is presented to a female Positive High School athlete, who has exemplified courage, determination, and positivity in the face of adversity while overcoming a sports-related injury. Lauten was previously selected for a 2024 Western PA Positive High School Athlete Award.
Lauten, a member of Mars Area High School Varsity Softball Team and the River City Venom Travel Softball Team, was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle in November 2022. After several months in the hospital and in physical rehabilitation, through hard work and determination, she recovered and is back to playing her favorite sport, softball.
In addition, to give back to those who supported her in her time of need and to help those who may be going through similar battles, Lauten organized a toy and clothing drive this past holiday season for the UPMC Children’s Hospital Rehabilitation Unit.
