Mars Area High School senior Ryah Eisenreich was named the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School Outstanding Student of the Month for January 2025.
Eisenreich is in her second year as a Culinary Arts student at the vo-tech and, for five years, she has worked at Breakneck Tavern (Mars), where she hopes to advance to a management position.
“Ryan has a strong work ethic, outstanding leadership skills, creativity, an understanding of industry, and professionalism,” said Mike Barczak and Don Ras, Culinary Arts instructors.
An Outstanding Student is selected based upon his/her character, leadership, honesty, responsibility, optimism and loyalty to creating a positive school environment. Honorees demonstrate excellent behavior, are well mannered, and are respectful to peers, teachers, and all other staff members.

Vo-Tech Students Inducted into Technical Honor Society
Three Mars Area High School students were inducted into the 2024-2025 Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School National Technical Honor Society.
Students are senior Michael Bridgeman, a student in the vo-tech’s Building Construction program; junior Luca Fantini, a Heavy Equipment student; and senior Kara Sims, a Culinary Arts student.
To qualify for the National Technical Honor Society, students must have a 90 percent or more in their vo-tech program and minimum 3.5 GPA at their home school.

2025 SkillsUSA “Champions at Work” District 10 Competition
Two Mars Area High School students, who attend Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School, placed in the 2025 SkillsUSA “Champions at Work” District 10 Competition, held Jan. 17 at New Castle School of Trades.
Senior Michael Bridgeman, a Building Construction student, earned second place in the Building Construction contest; and sophomore Rosemary Snow, a Welding student, took second place in the Welding Sculpture contest. Senior Kara Sims, a Culinary Arts student, received fifth place in the Baking and Pastry Arts contest.
The SkillsUSA competition, which bring together high school students from other career and technical education centers, reinforces the field-related skills that students are learning in the classroom as well as their leadership prowess.

Senior Joins in Bricklayer Competition
Mars Area High School senior Michael Bridgeman joined in the Jr. Spec Mix Bricklayer 500, held Sept. 26.
Bridgeman, a Building Construction student at Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School, served as a laborer for a Knoch student, who placed fifth in the competition, sponsored by BAC (Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers) Union #9.
The event was open to high school students and apprentices pursuing a career in masonry. Participants have 20 minutes to build a 9-foot, 4-inch wall using their best workmanship.

Senior Named Vo-Tech Student of the Year Finalist
Mars Area High School senior Alivia Miller is a finalist for Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School’s Student of the Year Award.
Miller, who is in her third year as a Collision Repair student, has been working at Classic Automotive (Mars) since her sophomore year through the vo-tech’s cooperative education program. At Mars Area High School, Miller is a member of the Coloring Expressions Club and she has achieved honor roll and high honor roll throughout her high school career.
Earlier this month, she participated in the Southwestern PA Career & Technical Education Signing Day and in February 2023, she was selected as the vo-tech’s Student of the Month. Upon graduation, Miller will continue working at Classic Automotive and plans to attend automotive technology, welding and CDL courses to further her education and skill set.
The Student of the Year award is presented to those students, who exemplify leadership, trustworthiness, and responsibility in creating a positive school environment, while being respectful to both peers and teachers. Nominees must be conscientious, complete assignments on time, and demonstrate a solid effort to earn certifications.
All nominees submit to a series of interviews; must present an educational portfolio; and give a speech in the final interview. Of the 30 vo-tech students nominated for the award, four were selected as finalists.
The Student of the Year will be named at the vo-tech’s annual Awards Program, to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, at Butler Intermediate High School.

Senior Joins in Career & Technical Education Signing Day
Mars Area High School senior Alivia Miller participated in the Southwestern PA Career & Technical Education Signing Day, held April 24 at PNC Park.
The purpose of the event was to recognize those students who are leaving career and technical education and are either employed, enrolled, or enlisted. Miller, a Collision Repair student at the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School, has been working at Classic Automotive (Mars) as a cooperative education student since her sophomore year and “signed” to continue her employment at the collision and mechanical repair facility.
She was one of five students from Butler County vo-tech, who were chosen to attend the event based upon their instructor’s recommendation as well as their demonstrated excellence in their program, and their plans to continue their career beyond school. The students and their families were provided with tickets to the Pittsburgh Pirates game after the Signing Day event.

Area High School junior Connor McKotch is the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School Outstanding Student of the Month for April 2024.
McKotch is in his second year as an Automotive Technology student at the vo-tech and is working for the Bobby Rahal Automotive Group. He is planning to pursue a career as an automotive technician.
“Connor has a great work ethic, display professionalism and has a desire to learn,” says Tim McLaughlin, automotive technology instructor. “He is a team player, working well with others to learn. He also shares knowledge and responsibility.”

Seniors Nominated for Vo-Tech Student of the Year
Two Mars Area High School seniors are nominated for 2023-2024 Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School Student of the Year.
Alivia Miller, a student in the vo-tech’s Collision Repair program, and Michaela Wilbert, a Cosmetology student, are among 30 vo-tech students, who were nominated for the honor based on their leadership qualities, trustworthiness, and responsibility in creating a progressive school environment while being respectful to both peers and teachers. Nominees are considered to be conscientious students, who complete assignments on time and make an effort to earn certifications; exhibit outstanding behavior; and have a good attendance record.
As part of the selection process, each nominee participates in a progressive series of interviews, for which students must prepare and present an educational portfolio showcasing their accomplishments. Students must also give a speech at the final interview.
First-round interviews were held Jan. 30-Feb 2 and second-round interviews will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The vo-tech will announce the 2023-2023 Student of the Year at its annual Awards Program, to be held on Thursday, May 23.

Mars Area High School senior Colin Clutter joined in the 2024 SkillsUSA “Champions at Work” District 10 Competition, held Jan. 9-12 at the New Castle School of Trades.
Clutter, who is in his second year as a Heavy Equipment Repair student at Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School, represented the vo-tech as a delegate at the regional event. And, he will, once again, represent the vo-tech at the 2024 SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Leadership & Skill Conference, to held April 3-5 in Hershey, Pa., where he will have a voice in the decision-making process for next year’s state competition.
