Mars Area High School’s Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica) Chapter has inducted several new members.
Inductees are juniors Sydney Allard, Jacob Bridgeman, Tatum Empey, Madisyn McAfee, Danny Murray and Dylan Swigart; and, sophomores Sydnie Apthorpe, Lily Becker, Coali Bonus, Alayna Day, Brennan DaSilva, , Savannah Druga, Carter Emanuele, Gemma Fratto, Allie Girdwood, Janya Iyer, Mia Kochanski, Reanna Kolarcik-Schmitt, Sarah Lahlou, Emma Lamping, Riley Long, Gianna Nicotra, Torrin O’Leary, Kalan Peters, Abigail Stevenson, Grace Surrena, Hayden Vavala and Katie Zwigart.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is an honor society for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who are enrolled in Spanish. To be eligible, students must have a minimum of 90 percent in all of their Spanish courses; must commit to complete all four years of the language; and must maintain a 3.0 average GPA.
The goal of honor society, which is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), is to recognize high school achievement in Spanish and Portuguese and to promote interest in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian studies.
