High School Hosts Mock Accident Assembly

Seniors and juniors at Mars Area High School received a first hand look at the serious consequences of driving under the influence as part of a Mock Accident assembly, held April 8.

The mock accident was designed to resemble a real accident in every aspect. The presentation included real first responders from Adams Area Fire District, Adams Township Police Department, Butler County Coroner, Butler County 911, Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company, AHN Pre-Hospital Response, AHN LifeFlight and Quality EMS.

The vehicles used in the dramatization were donated by Classic Automotive Inc. Student actors were seniors Lexi Settlemire and Domenic Speranza and juniors Sarah Arnold and Aidan Krepin.

Immediately, following the Mock Accident assembly, students attended a KDKA “Take the Lead: Ford Driving Skills for Life” panel discussion. Shelley Bortz, KDKA news reporter, spoke about a 1994 car accident, in which a drunk driver hit her vehicle, severely injuring her and killing her best friend.

Other speakers included Richard Bazze, Shultz Ford Wexford president/owner; Shelley Virag, Shutlz Ford assistant service manager; Dr. Allan S. Philp Jr., AGH chief medical officer; Pam Wahal, Allegheny County Pre-trial Services prevention coordinator; and Pennsylvania State Police Trp. Melinda Bondarenka.
