High School Celebrates Spring Sports at Pep Rally

Mars Area High School students joined in a Spring Pep Rally on April 16.

Festivities included recognition for members of the school’s spring sports teams; a teacher vs. teacher basketball game, a performance by the school’s Dance Team, and a Pie-in-the-Face  activity.

The school held Penny Wars to select three staff members — Mike Bordt, school resource officer; Steven Loebig, mathematics teacher; and Bill Wesley, biology teacher — to have a pie tossed in their face. Seniors Hal Callithen and Ava Herbolich and junior Ava Girdwood were selected to toss the pies.

In addition, students in Chris Knauff’s Entrepreneurship class announced that they had raised $800 as part of a Dodgeball Tournament, held to benefit the creation of a new Mind Matters (Peer2Peer) Club, which would focused on promoting positive mental health for teenagers.

Students were asked to pay $10 to compete in the tournament, held throughout the day on April 16. Tournament organizers were seniors Ian Coulter and Julia Leake; juniors Ava Girdwood, Tim Joos, Noah Lamping, Makenna Myler, Andrew McAfee, Addie Orehowsky, Henry Saver, Addy Vargo and Josh Wilburn; and, sophomore Max Repko.
