Soccer Players Selected for Regional Summer Camp

Five female soccer pllayersSeveral Mars Area School District student-athletes joined in the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) East Regional Summer ID Camp, held July 6-8 in Farmington, Conn.

Incoming Mars Area High School ninth-grader Reese Vuckovich; incoming Mars Area Middle School seventh-grader Ella Reefer; and, incoming Mars Area Centennial School sixth-graders Dahimy Martinez and Paige Vuckovich, participated as members of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Development Academy (RDA) ECNL teams. Incoming sixth-graders Avery Cooper joined in the event as a members of Beadling Soccer Club Team.

The athletes were selected for the regional event after participating in the East Regional ODP ID tournament, held June 7-8 in Manheim, Pa. The ODP East Regional Summer ID Camp brings together the top youth soccer players from throughout the region.

Also of note, incoming seventh-grader Ella Reefer and incoming sixth-grader Paige Vuckovich competed as members of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2013 Pre-ECNL Team at the Premier SuperCopa tournament, held June 12-15 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The team won the national championship, after going undefeated in bracket competition against teams from Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri and New Jersey. The team is the first Pittsburgh team to receive an invitation to the annual tournament.

The invitation-only event provides the highest level of competition available in the United States for U9-U12 boys and girls competitive youth teams.
