This morning (Friday, Sept. 18), Mars Area School District School Police were alerted by Mars Borough Police that they had received a phone call from a digitized voice stating that an armed individual was in the parking lot at Mars Area High School.

Immediately upon receipt of this information, School Police Officers swept and secured Mars Area High School, before working with Adams Township Police and Mars Borough Police to search the school’s parking lots and the exterior of the building.

No unauthorized persons or anything else was found to indicate that call was legitimate. At approximately 10:15 a.m., the Mars Area High School campus was declared “secure” and the school operations returned to normal. At this time, there is no imminent threat to the health and safety of the student body and/or staff members at Mars Area High School or at any other District buildings.

Mars Area School District would like to thank our School Police Officers as well as local law enforcement for their quick and diligent response. And, we thank everyone for your patience and cooperation as our District strives to remain proactive in the protection of our students, faculty and staff members.
