Seniors Examine Special Education Fields

Four Mars Area High School seniors joined in a “Special Education Destination: Mapping the Journey to Your Career” Field Trip, held Oct. 21 at Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV (Grove City).

Participants, including seniors Madalyn Osterman, Corinne Sprague, Makenna Steiner and Kiara Van Wyk, learned about the various fields in special education — Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Teachers of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing, Assistive Technology, Behavior Management.

The event, open to high school juniors and seniors, also offered students a look at the educational career path; modern technologies that assist students with disabilities; and, an opportunity to talk with current special education professionals. The students will join in a second field trip to dive deeper into the specific fields in which they have an interest.
