Several Mars Area High School students competed in the Pennsylvania FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) State Championship, held March 14-15 at Saucon Valley High School (Hellertown, Pa.)
Mars Robotics Association’s “MARS Curiosity?” Team, including senior Santiago Beltran and juniors Rohit Doijad, Tatum Empey, Sophia Gourash and Alex Hutchens, received the Innovate Award for their use of a ball drive design for robot movement. The team was the first ever to use a ball drive design.
In addition, Gourash was named a finalist for the FIRST Tech Challenge Leadership Award, which celebrates students’ individual contributions and is awarded based on leadership, teamwork, and his/her promotion of STEAM in communities.
