Exchange Students Discuss Culture, Differences

Mars Area High School’s MISA/AFS (Mars International Student Association/American Field Service) Chapter welcomed exchange students from across the globe as part of the school’s “International Day,” held March 26.

Exchange students Pauline Calonne (France), Putt Chaichompu (Thailand), Benjamín Díaz Palma (Chile), Lena Özgül (Turkey), Leonardo Sosa Pinedo (Bolivia), Nidhi Sree Sivanandan Sangeetha (India), Maria Rita Sousa (Portugal), Anton Weidinger (Denmark) spoke with Mars Area High School students about their home countries and about adapting to America culture.

The annual event shows Mars Area students that there are people in different countries with whom they share many similarities and differences and that recognizing those distinctions can help them to better understand world cultures and events.

Mars Area High School’s MISA/AFS Chapter is an international exchange program that welcomes high school students from around the world as well as offers scholarships to eligible students who are interested in traveling abroad.
