Mars Area High School held its 2017 Homecoming celebration, Sept. 24-30.
Throughout the week, each class earned points by participating in various activities including Powder Puff Football Games and themed days. This year, the coveted Spirit Stick was awarded to the junior class.
On Sept. 29, the school introduced the members of its 2017 Homecoming Court at its annual Pep Rally. Court members were queen candidates Isabelle Berkopec, Erin McChesney, Ellie Orr, Ashley Parham, Bret Rinaman, Landri Shannan, Nichole Sommers and Jessica Srock; and king candidates Robby Carmody, Ray Kahn, Caleb Keys, Elias Manjerovic, Luke Nanna, Max Pasquinelli, Daniel O’Connell and Michael Sforza. Honorary court members were exchange students Michele Costa dos Santos and Anna von Preussen, Maxwell Quaicoe and Pedro Lopes.
The annual Homecoming Parade traversed through Downtown Mars on Sept. 29. The parade included performances by Mars Area High School’s cheerleading squads and marching band.
Following the parade, the Fightin’ Planets took on the New Castle Red Hurricanes, but were defeated 24-25. At halftime, senior Landri Shannan was crowned the 2017 Homecoming Queen.
At the Homecoming Dance on Sept. 30, senior Elias Manjerovic was named the 2017 Homecoming King. Theme of the dance was “Through the Decades.”
