Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2017 MAC (Midwestern Athletic Conference) Varsity Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 10 at Brush Creek Park.
The boys team took fourth place overall with 115 points and an average time of 19:00. Sophomore Zachary Leachman took first place with a time of 17:25; junior John Zervos, 12th place (18:33); senior Elijah Cook, 30th place (19:33); senior Caleb Keys, 35th place (19:43); sophomore Dylan Becker, 37th place (19:48); sophomore Clayton Pfeifer, 43rd place (20:00); and junior Brent Metal, 53rd place (20:13).
The girls team place fourth overall with 143 points and an average time of 23:45. Top runners included freshman McKenna Bowes, who earned sixth place (21:52); junior Camille Bromley, 14th place (22:40); freshman Kelli Jancay, 25th place (23.35); sophomore Emma Hornfeck, 56th place (25.15); senior McKenzie Hutchison, 58th place (25:26); senior Jesse Caringola, 66th place (25.59); and senior Carli Walker, 92nd place (28:27).
