Teams Compete at WPIAL Cross Country Championships

Mars Area High School Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country Teams competed in the 2017 WPIAL Class 3A Cross Country Championships, held Oct. 14 at Cooper’s Lake Campground.

The boys team took 16th place overall with 452 points and an average time of 18:14. Individually, sophomore Zachary Leachman took 12th place with a time of 16:43; junior John Zervos, 83rd place (18.14); senior Elijah Cook, 103rd place (18:31); sophomore Clayton Pfeifer, 126th place (18:52); junior Brent Metal, 128th place (18:54); sophomore Dylan Becker, 142nd place (19:07); and senior Caleb Keys, 153rd place (19:14).

The girls team placed 15th overall with 407 points and an average time of 21:38. Top runners included freshman McKenna Bowes, 30th place (20:23); freshman Kelli Jancay, 57th place (21:05); junior Camille Bromley, 65th place (21:23); sophomore Emma Hornfeck, 126th place (22:37); senior McKenzie Hutchison, 129th place (22:44); senior Jesse Caringola, 197th place (25:02); and sophomore Julia Griffith, 210th place (25:52).
