Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Football Team ended the 2017 regular season with an overall record of 6-4 and 5-3 in Section 1-4A of the Northwest Nine Conference.

The Fightin’ Planets advanced to the 2017 WPIAL Class 4A Boys Football Championship, but were defeated by the Belle Vernon Leopards 42-7, in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Outstanding players on this year’s team included seniors Davis Bayne, Christopher Check, Dylan Eagle, Anthony Grieco, Stanley Hayes, Cody Hertzler, Cade Hertzler, Wesley Huska, Kyle Kaufman, Anthony Michalski, Luke Miller, Andrew Moyer, Brendan Moyer, Duncan Price and Kevin Soergel; juniors Charles Green, Tyler Kowalkowski, Garrett Reinke and Thomas Sheehy; and sophomore Drew Schlegel.
