Eight Mars Area seniors signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level:
Sydney Amell signed a letter of intent to join the Golden Eagles Women’s Volleyball Team at Clarion University of Pennsylvania (Clarion, Pa.), where she has yet to declare a major.
Amell is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team, which advanced to the WPIAL championships in both 2016 and 2017. She is a four-year member of Girls Varsity Track & Field Team (discus) and has joined the Girls Varsity Bowling Team in her senior year.
At Mars Area High School, she is also a member of Interact Club and Varsity Club. In the community, she volunteers with youth volleyball camps.
Jack Anderson signed a letter of intent to join the Wildcats Men’s Baseball Team at Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.), where he plans to major in economics.
Anderson is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team, which advanced to the WPIAL playoffs in the past three seasons and to the PIAA championships in both 2016 and 2017.
At Mars Area High School, Anderson is a member of National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In the community, he is employed at No Off Season Sports Training Facility.
Kameron Angeletti signed a letter of intent to join the Eagles Men’s Lacrosse Team at Benedictine University (Lisle, Ill.), where he plans to major in microeconomics.
Angeletti, is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, which earned back-to-back WPIAL titles in 2016 and 2017 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 PIAA playoffs. He is a current member of the school’s Boys Varsity Bowling Team; and was a member of the Boys Varsity Cross Country Team during his junior and senior years, and the Boys Varsity Hockey Team in his first three years at Mars Area High School.
At the school, Angeletti is a member of Key Club and plays on the school’s Ultimate Frisbee Team. In the community, he volunteers for TRY (Together for Retarded Youth).
Isabelle Berkopec signed a letter of intent to join the Panthers Women’s Softball Team at Birmingham-Southern College (Birmingham, Ala.), where she plans to major in finance and business.
Berkopec is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Softball Team, which advanced to the WPIAL championships in both 2015 and 2016. She is a four-year member of the school’s Girls Varsity Volleyball Team and has joined the Girls Varsity Bowling Team in her senior year.
At Mars Area High School, she is also a member of Interact Club and Varsity Club.
Robby Carmody signed a letter of intent to join the Fighting Irish Men’s Basketball Team at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Ind.), where he intends to major in business and finance.
Carmody is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team, which in each of the past three seasons placed in the WPIAL playoffs and advanced to the PIAA championships, taking second place in 2016. Carmody was named as the 2016-2017 Butler Eagle Boys Basketball Player of the Year, and shared the 2015-2016 title with John Castello (Class of 2016).
At Mars Area High School, Carmody is a member of National Honor Society and the school’s Child Development program. In the community, he volunteers with Mars Youth Basketball.
Frank Craska signed a letter of intent to join the Leopards Men’s Baseball Team at Lafayette College (Easton, Pa.), where he plans to major in government, law and economics.
Craska is a two-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Baseball Team, which advanced to the WPIAL playoffs in the past three seasons and to the PIAA championships in both 2016 and 2017.
In the community, Craska serves as a volunteer coach with Mars Baseball Association.
Lauren Wasylson signed a letter of intent to join the Musketeers Women’s Basketball Team at Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio), where she plans to major in business.
Wasylson is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team, which placed sixth in the 2017 WPIAL playoffs and fourth in 2016, advancing to the PIAA playoffs in both years. She was named to the 2016-2017 Butler Eagle Basketball Honor Roll.
At Mars Area High School, Wasylson is a member of REACH (Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help) and Class Council.
Natalie Welsh signed a letter of intent to join the Highlanders Women’s Golf Team at Radford University (Radford, Va.), where she plans to major in sports medicine or sports broadcasting.
Welsh, a member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Golf Team, took eighth place at the 2017 PIAA Class 3A Individual Championships, after placing sixth in the WPIAL event. She advanced to the WPIAL individual championships in each of her four years on the team.
At Mars Area High School, she is a member of REACH and Class Council. Welsh, who has participated in dance since age 3, is a member of Fairgrieve School of Dance (Gibsonia, Pa.)
